I was having a soak in the bath when my wife came in to tell me.
I wasnt a particular fan in the early years but later on came to realise what a good voice he had.

He did, but unlike many, one could argue he wasn't the 'full package' in that I don't think he ever wrote a song.

Yep, you're right. But TBF there had been global singing superstars before him (Sinatra, King Cole, Caruso, Crosby, Armstrong - and so on, but they come to mind)

I remember Elvis's death. I think maybe my problem with Elvis is like my problem with Shakespeare. No one can compare with the hype. I might have thought Elvis was great if I had discovered him myself. I think Elvis may have been a revelation in the 50s, but as a ten-year-old in the 70s, I wondered what the fuss was about.

Everyone has their time in the sun, before the next big thing comes along. He could have extended his career like these two if he had been managed properly.
But he had terrible management.
