I'm planning to do it if I can get an entry.

My brothers and I did most of the route over 2 days this year so I know what it is like. Young Bro had a bin going down Kirkstone when a car in front stopped.... but he was unable to.

That be me then!!
Cant argue with that, just going too darn fast! The decents are pretty hairy as said before but Kirkstone goads you to dropping the hammer!
Hope we get in this year, have a few demons to get rid of!

I am thinking of entering the Lakeland Loop next year as well. I can then either get some practise in for the Fred and check the bike and gearing out or if I don't get on the Fred then at least I can have a cracking day out and still do the big climbs.

Any one else doing the Lakeland Loop in April?

I got on the Fred! Did anyone else? Signed up for the Lakeland loop aswell a few weeks back. Means I get the big climbs twice within a month. Lucky me I think lol.

Oh got a bit of money aswell so been upgrading my bike slowly. dt swiss wheels, shimano 5700 derailleurs, fsa compact, 11-28t sram cassette and carbon Fork. All should help as under 10kg now.

I might be tempted out to watch there, or more likely at the Woolpack Inn just at the bottom of Hardknott

I'm on for it this year. Which seems daunting now! Know the route well as I grew up in Eskdale, going to hit Hardknott and Wrynose on Friday for some practice when I'm visiting the folks.

What training recommendations would people have other than just hitting as many hills as humanly possible between now and then. My bike time is limited due to a 4 month old baby at the moment. Have been managing about 3x1 hour sessions on the turbo over the last few weeks and finally got back out on the road yesterday.

I'm not averse to hills and have done 100 before (Manchester 100 with a group of you from on here last year - somewhat flatter though!!). 112 with those hills is a different ball game altogether though.

Any training tips welcome. I'm not fatty but I'm assuming losing any excess christmas pounds and trying to get in as many hills but also as many low intensity miles as possible would be wise, combined with some interval sessions on trainer when I don't have time for anything else?

Cheers

I was going to go up to the lakes on thursday and friday this week to challenge some of the passes but the weather looks like its getting cold again and dont fancy meeting ice on the descents.

Are you also doing the lakeland loop in april as practise?

May do Lakeland Loop - family dependent.

I'm up there Thur/Fri too. Planning to do Hardknott & Wrynose then south round Coniston and back over Corney Fell. Although it is looking cold. should be ok ice-wise as it's a solidly dry week. Wind chill on the top will be more of a concern!

Rule of thumb advice is always finish your run with the biggest hill around, and put the harder climbs later on in your ride.
Oh, and think seriously about what gearing you will have on the day.

Headed over a sub-zero HK&WR today. I need to build some serious power and cut some serious pounds!

Only ne patch of ice, which comically 3 young lads had managed to position their batter Escort at 90degs on. Helped them spin it round and head home with their tale between their legs.

So I only need to double that ride and will be sorted!

Can recommend Corney Fell as an epic British climb that's right off most people's radar, check it out at about 43miles on that ride. Just make sure if you do it you avoid shift change time at sellafield or you'll be terrorised by commuters, I had a clean but cold run over - beast of a hill!
