No, just plug in and play.

As Colin said, many of us are stuck with Freeview Lite which has few channels and a signal which is effected by poor weather. Freesat is much better, for a one off payment of less than £50 it is worth the money (About £90 if you want a hard drive for recording).

We have Sky at the moment but it's getting a little expensive now where they keep creeping the prices up, once our contract term is up Freesat looks a good option. Cheers.

Another one here who has never has Sky, so it might be a case of what you have never had, you don't miss.
Had Freeview firstly with the set top box and latterly built in. A couple of years ago we got Freesat via a Humax. Unless on Blueray/DVD, films we watch through the computer via an HDMI cable plugged into the back of the TV sound system. That choice seems plenty. In fact I feel slightly overwhelmed with channels when on occasions I have had a Sky remote in my hand.

Ex - Sky subscriber here. Joined them 14 years ago because I couldn't get decent TV reception.
Kicked them out on the last price rise & got a Humax freesat box, it simply plugged in place where the sky+ box was, same connections no need to realign the dish.
There is less to watch, but now when I can't find anything to watch I'm not thinking of how much it's costing me.

One thing that I forgot to mention is that a significant minority of the UK (including us here in the Calder Valley) are fobbed off with 'Freeview Lite'. We only get about 11 or 12 of the main channels. Freesat gives a much bigger selection.

Of course, it helps if you remember to add channels to your 'Favourites' ...

I didn't want to keep scrolling through scores of unwanted channels (Babestation, FFS!!!!???) so I use Favourite Channels to only list the ones that I might actually want to watch. I set it up when I bought my Freesat box in May last year and it has taken me 13 months to notice that I had missed ITV and Channel 5 off the list!
