And retracted. Arrived back from Cornwall to find date of minor operation on my hand coincides with this ride, so as you set off I shall be in bed recovering. A bit annoying as I was looking forward to the tunnel.

Which also means:
(not sure how staying up all night on friday will affect my speed on the Man of Kent 200k on the Sunday though but hey ho I expect I can draft @Trickedem all the way round.....)
is irrelevant as I shall not now be either drafting Tim, or helping organise it.

Email sent off to Dellzeqq, so hopefully I'm in. The Rotherhithe tunnel should be interesting. I've toyed with the idea of going through it before, but as others have said, it would appear that the exhaust gases can make it unpleasant, With luck, the time of night, and numbers of us, should make it more tolerable.

Apparently the corners at each end are there because the tunnel dates back to horse drawn vehicles being the norm, and the idea was that the horses wouldn't be able to see daylight until they were just about to leave the tunnel, so wouldn't panic and bolt. Unfortunately those corners don't play well with modern large vehicles, but that shouldn't be a problem for us.

I've ridden through the Rotherhithe Tunnel loads of times.
While it is not a party - it is unlikely anyone will die.
TimO - I thought your anecdote to the kinks in the tunnel referred to the first Blackwall tunnel bore - I could be wrong - but it wouldn't surprise me about the Rotherhithe....

tis true about the tunnel design of both the Old Blackwall and the Rotherhithe.

After living for 50 years in SE London, I've never yet cycled through the Rotherhithe tunnel. I did walk through it with a disabled bike a couple of year ago and to relieve the boredom I started counting the smashed van mirrors on the carriageway but decided that there were too many to count. Perhaps, alongside ''bungalow'' you should include the cycling call ''mirror!''....

I'm not sure which has more busted mirrors - The Rotherhithe tunnel, or the grass verges of the Ditchling Beacon?

apologies to those who have e-mailed and not received a reply. I am working full time and replacing a kitchen in my 'spare' time while offering some company to one of the kids.

Nice to have Ben's Girlfriend's CTC number even if I don't know her name. I wonder if that's the first question he asks........
