Go on then.

I have pretty high opinions of some of the people here and so hope to draft in their aura most of the way.

Here for rides.
What timo said. He talks a lot of sense for a rocket scientist. As do the other rocket scientists in my life. and there are several.

I think the 'Whitstable is a toughie' card is a bit overplayed. We avoid Shooters Hill, and that cliff in Greenwich these days iirc. The ride undulates in a manner that is pleasing esp if you've a compact or a triple and run a good range at the back. the leds get delightfully strung out on the kentish lanes and the run in from Seasalter alone is worth the journey.

I'll be keeping company at the back on this one, can't seem to find my bike legs as yet.

I do know one experienced FNRttCer who has never enjoyed Whitstable. It's a wierd one - you have to get the measure of it.

I'm going to really nail the Sittingbourne section this time round....

Alas, Alack!

It looks like I would be a bit out of my depth on this ride. I have no doubts about getting there, but I would almost certainly hold people up, so I will dip.
{" I'm going outside, and may not be back for some time"}.

We had planned a half-term trip for that week-end as well, so it won't be too ghastly, but please send handkerchiefs to slowmotion Towers...Sniff...

Have fun, you lucky people.

I agree with TimO here. Whitstable isn't actually that difficult, we go at a relaxed pace - about 11-12 mph, according to my bike computer. Doing this sort of distance is always very much easier with company. You'll get lots of encouragement!

I actually find Southend harder than Whitstable, because so much of it's urban riding so demands a good deal of concentration (not least due to the denizens of the East End!). Whitstable's more relaxed, with lots of nice countryside roads. If you've done a few rides of a few hours duration, I doubt you'll find it too onerous.

Perfectly put Tim.

Rather unfortunately I'm not going to be able to do this run due to other commitments.

Oh come on Abs!!! Re-arrange.

And what cliff in Greenwich? It really should go over Shooters just so I can join at the Kent side rather than climb over it to HPC!!!

Would love to just it's a friends 40th on Saturday and turning up all sleep deprived could be considered rude.

Sorry

we used to go up the western side of the park, and on to the old roman road, which took us over Shooters Hill and all the way to Dartford, where I would lead the ride up and over a pedestrian footbridge on to the inner ring road. All very jolly........but people got tired of the ups and downs, and the wait for the less full-on hillclimbers was a bit wearisome. Eventually User10571 persuaded me to take the ride down the route he'd advocated all along, which, as you know, takes us past the Woolwich Ferry South Pier and then left on Bannockburn and then right through Abbey Wood and Lower Belvedere. And then I started taking the ride along that eerie deserted business park road to Northfleet, cutting out even more ups and downs.

Which is completely fine with the majority of us Del. It's just that Martin has a bee in his little bonnet about Shooters Hill for some reason. He has to do it every day on his commute and seems to want's to punish the rest of us for it.
