Nighttime. Empty roads. Moonlight. Conversation. A town comes in to view, and then a steep sided valley. 91 intrepid cyclists file down the valley side, and reach the ancient town of Rochester via the famous iron bridge.
One thing, and one thing only could have brought them here. Andy's famous bacon baguettes.
They make their way from the river mist to Rochester's Latin Quarter. Old hands scent the air - and a smile, born of recognition and deep satisfaction plays across their lips. These aren't just any bacon baguettes. They're bacon baguettes individually wrapped in finest tinfoil.
Those old hands know that there is only one way to make the perfect bacon baguette. Toast the baguette, grill the bacon, put the bacon in the baguette, and then, using a technique known to the French as 'en papillotte' wrap the baguette tightly, sealing the flavour and moisture of the bacon wth the freshness of the bread.
Ah, what deliquescent subtlety! Gentle on the palate, yet simultaneously robust! Savoury, but lent the smack of sweetness by the obligatory dab of brown sauce! Surely no greater pleasure awaits the gourmand than a bacon baguette consumed under the streetlights of Rochester's most atmospheric thoroughfare.
All this can be yours. To register for your bacon baguette en papillote simply e-mail fnrttc@....
