In keeping with a similar poll on this forum, we should take a look at what bike everyone is riding on Friday night, we can then look at the stat's to see what would appear to be the most suitable/popular bike...

So, I'll begin:-

mike e - penny farthing with a full 20 speed group...

Not Campagnolo then?

Mine, due to crocked Italian carbon (which might yet be fixeable, heard nothing from Velocity/Viner UK/CBR today, will make further enquiries tomorrow), will be the Jetstream. Bit slower than I'd like, but still eminently suitable for Ditchling.

Anything else need doing Simon?

nope - I think it's all done. Routesheet, risk assessment and scout hut keys delivered to Hove. Telephone numbers exchanged. Gas cylinders (tyres for the inflation of) purchased, to be given to the TECs. The Madeira primed. Martlets riders to congregate outside platform 12. I'll go up to the car park and meet the bike-in-van riders - I may take them up to HPC seperately, or I may have time to bring them down to the main body of the station. Signing in sheets completed (oh, if anybody fancies running round HPC getting signatures, that would be good).

oh - and if you're the smoothychops who left an encouraging message on The Babe's justgiving page.......she was very impressed.

you'll notice that the Martlets riders are replicating the FNRttCers. And, yes, there are two Nick Ks. And don't get me started on the Andrews.....

No word from the usual last-minute specialists yet. I might even call the Mysterious Pavel, and see if I can tempt him out.

Must be the biggest FNRTTC Peloton ever

it is. By about 30

Gulp!

I've no idea how many of the Martlets riders will turn up. I've only had contact with about 40 or so, but I have e-mailed them all and asked them to let me know if they're not riding, and we have had a couple of cancellations in response.

I just got home. About a mile from work my front wheel died, the rim decided that it had had enough, followed by the inner exploding.

So, following a fairly lucky public transport commute, which involved me catching a train with about 2 minutes to spare, and the last tram with about 10 seconds to spare, I'm home.

Tomorrow morning I'll shall have to see if I can get a wheel from one of the LBSs, or failing that I have a fall back of nicking the front wheel off of the single speed (although it has lost a spoke!)

At least it's better that the rim decided to die when it did, rather than somewhere like halfway down Reigate hill!

I have a spare front wheel (actually two spare front wheels you can borrow. One of them has a Krylion tyre on it. Let me know if you need one. I can meet you in Victoria.

Thanks for the offers of wheels chaps, I just managed to get a Deore hubbed, Mavic A319 rimmed, relatively bomb proof wheel from Evans. Hopefully this one will last. I'm surprised that the rim went on the other one, it's only done a bit over 6000 miles. I have been going through a lot of brake pads this year, so I guess it's taken a lot of wear in the poor weather.

I had a flat yesterday evening, and on reflection I suspect that was a sharp edge from where the rim was starting to go, but I didn't notice when I replaced the tube. One mile down the road, it definitely went fully!

I've now got to hunt down everything I need for this evening, and pack it into a rucksack. When the bike is here, it's a useful way to remember stuff, since water bottles, lights, GPS etc all fit onto it. I'm going to have to hope I don't forget anything essential!
