Just make sure you don't pay bike shop prices - have a look on eBay and on web stores specialising in gas cartridges. You can get cartridges by the box load for a bargain!

So I noticed, 42p each, so long as I don't mind buying a thousand at a time.

Would anyone care to suggest a good supplier?

AHowever, I did run into some mechanical difficulties about 20 km before reaching home and now have to get my back wheel repaired and a new derailleur. Bit gutted with the final outcome, but the whole night/day out was a treat. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it so much fun!

hi Andrew, sorry to hear about your wheel. hopefully planet-x will sort it out. why not try using standard 32-36 spoke 3-cross wheels instead, i think they would be _way_ superior to low spoke count wheels in real world conditions. personally i feel more assured riding on standard 36-spoke wheels than on my pair of ksyrium sl's.. just my 2-pence..

Hey - nice riding back with you on Sat!

I went through the whole spoke count debate when deciding which wheels to buy. Planet-X say that they get very few issues with the Model Bs, so I hope that this is just a one-off. If I get any more issues though, then I might consider using the Model Bs for short distance training and something with a higher spoke count for our long distance social rides. So what about long distance training?

As far as aero spokes go, I'm not sure they convey much advantage, and some would say that they can be a disadvantage in crosswinds, but they do look nice.

I ordered some cartridges from Tyre Inflators, which works out to around 75p each, including P&P.

I went to Slane Cycles for the M-Part inflator which Simon gave me to use on Friday night. I liked the fact that it screwed onto the tyre, and has a knob to open and close the valve. Something with a lever triggered valve and a partially used cartridge is soon going to empty itself into my bag, or jersey pocket.

I would have bought some 25g cartridges (which I believe is what Simon gave me with the inflator on Friday), but they are more than twice the price of 16g ones (at least from Tyre Inflators), so I'll just use twice as many small cartridges instead!

Ah, actually that's where I think I got mine many months ago! The 16 g cartridges are good to use as they fill one tyre per cartridge almost exactly, so you don't have to be carrying around partially filled cartridges.

I'm a wuss Tim, and don't like cold hands - also I like to put pressure on the tyre valve, through the tyre and fix the inflator nozzle in place, then flip the lever. "Whoosh!" All that screwing and unscrewing business is too scientific for me! ;)

The girl in the orange jacket looks familiar.

Moi, Adam and Dave...when dellzeqq says 'TEC' it means TEC. Adam, the two Tims, Andrij, Graham - always packing tons of stuff to help out (and the medicine cabinet, which this ride ran to Camus, Courvoisier, Malt, couple of energy gel and a Talisker boost).

My aplogies to Aperitif, Adam and Dave. Where was the smiley for a rhetorical/jokey question when I needed it?

Malt is that loaf, biscuit or something stronger?
