Frank will love the way this thread is going...

Just read it now and see that you are up to your old tricks again! I was wondering if the recent movements in global stock markets had caught you out this time.

Actually, I shouldn't poke fun at your mastery of the ticket pricing system. I rode up to Norfolk yesterday (on the only wet day this week) and got a train back from Diss. The night before I could have booked it for £8 but, turning up at the station, it cost me £41.

For a moment I considered just riding back!

Here for rides.
Can someone clarify, what the score is on these bike reservations that people have. Do they mean anything, will I be left on the platform if everyone else has one, but I don't.

They are merely comfort blankets for those who live outside the Southern network. Southern don't 'do' bike reservations, and how many bikes get on a particular train is down to the whim of the guard/conductor. Mostly these are excellent chaps provided the revenue enforcement officers and BTP are not on board (won't affect us they don't seem to work weekends) when they are likely to turn all jobsworthian.

The fragrant Claudine claims these fake bike reservations have given her some sense of moral authority, and thus actual power, but I suspect she just used her considerable charm, and undoubted eloquence to get the good folk of Southern to see it her way or, perhaps, threatened to set Teef on the train staff.....

So in short they mean not a thing, and if you get left on the platform it will not be for the want of said scrap of card.

I have have (touch wood) never had a problem on Southern.

Maybe I'm almost as fragrant as TC but the issue is if, and when there is a problem of just too many bikes to fit on board and you have an advance ticket which restricts you to that particular train - then because of the cycle reservation - if they cannot fufil it they are bound to endorse your ticket so you can go on the next available.

Just an extra bit of insurance (just in case). Oh and if as a result your arrival is delayed by more than 30 mins you are in for a refund. Just think what you can do with 45p ....

One of those would be great, thanks. Exchange for a container of beer-like and foam?

Additionally to the above, I have a 10:56 without bike rezzie - Let me know which one you'd like.

After the Newhaven ride, I rode from East Croydon to home with 7 beers inside me after being led astray by various people!!! Needless to say I remember little of the ride except that my GPS worked well!!!

For those planning on riding back, due to the long wait for breakfast at Felpham we tend to breakfast on the route back so it's a quickish turnaround!

My plan has been dashed before it even was put into action.

evening all , just a quick question on the route - in terms of the "bumpy with a bit of off roading" is it going to ok doing this with 25mm tyres or do i need to look at something a bit more robust.

please tell me there isnt any gravel - i hate gravel as it always brings out the "best" in my skids / falls

The off-roading will be the walk with the bike kind, (except when lifting them over stiles). Nothing to worry about, honest...
