Quiet good lady.. you are never on the list.. you don't have to be.. it's written that there is a place for you... now settle down and pour yourself a nice G&T.

Wot he said, apart from the 'vastly overblown' bit. It looked like an alp the first time I saw it looming in the distance, and that first ascent definitely was not a piece of cake (though I made the mistake of stopping for a drink), and had to walk for a bit as it was a false flat and just couldn't kick off again, even with a 22" bottom gear. Didn't make that same mistake again, next time I got up in one go. Even though I've been up there quite a few times now, I could never take the Beacon for granted.
That said, keep the pace steady, change down as and when (and if you can leave yourself a bailout gear or two) and you should be fine.

Vernon, forewarned is forearmed..

This is tragiclly sad to admit :secret: I watched this a few times so that when I was on it for real I knew where I was and how far I had to go.

Having done a 2AAA 100km Audax last weekend I'm fully prepared for trauma. I'll be appearing with my Woodrup Chimera as it's lower geared than my Yates' Randonneur. I'm porky enough to remain concerned tho but.

Vernon - there's nothing wrong with walking the three hills on the Brighton ride - least of all the Beacon. If it's a nice night and we get the timing right then a walk up the Beacon will be an absolute delight.

Very hot and dry. There will be a mandatory stop at the top of Reigate Hill for the application of sun cream ...
Very cold and wet. There will be a mandatory stop at the foot of Reigate Hill, we take cover in the tunnel to add more waterproofs in a fruitless attempt to remain dry. At the Cabin the local brigade will be called to pump out the establishment following our visit. You will hear the phrase 'character building' too often for it to have any meaning.

Or Stuart may be right and some lucky soul will get to "do" Adrians head
