FNRttC Friday Night Ride to the Coast - Brighton 3rd August

I'm getting TfL emails (don't ask my why) that say please avoid London Bridge station at all times - anyone know what it's really like, or likely to be like tomorrow evening? If I try to get a Southern train and fail, it would be too late to get to Brighton for the FCC one, so I guess I'll have to wing it.

I think TFL just want to be conservative but be aware that Friday (today) is the first day of Athletic events so actually nobody knows how volume will be effected at London Bridge re Jubilee line to Stratford. I can imagine around 6pm heightened volume but generally the load will be spread during the day as people want to spend time within the Olympic Park. Post event maybe not a problem because it won't overlap with commuters.

Why not get the FCC train to London Bridge with me Greg? 9.11 from Brighton.

The lovely Helen has revoked my overnight pass for this one, a simple late lunch in Brighton on Saturday with friends having morphed, mysteriously and outside of my control, into a whole weekend in her beloved City.

I'm going to attempt to negotiate a Sunday pass for your recce ride but I'm not optimistic.

Just had a thought, changing at Clapham Junc to get train to Victoria will mean southern trains, so will get off at Vauxhall and cycle up from there instead. That work for you?

The Southern train goes all the way. I'll be getting on at a LOROL station so they may not care (if they even notice me sneek in through the unmanned barrier). So if I don't get thrown off the main issue will be getting out through the gate at Victoria platform 12.

Since I quite often TEC, I can sometimes be one of the last people in (although that's less common with Brighton, when Simon has often released me to whizz down into Brighton from the top of Ditchling, and try and trigger the Speed Camera ). This does mean that all of the good, easily visible bike locking places can be gone. There's also the issue that the troll under the bridge table clearing bod, often wants us to move bikes which are in his way, when he moves stuff around, prior to the mass of tourists appearing, so sometimes it's easier to lock up to the new Sheffield stands, on the other side of the road, but hidden behind the parked cars.

The traffic in London this morning, was as quiet as I've ever seen it when cycling into work. As the Olympics progress, more and more people seem to be avoiding using motor vehicles, in favour of being somewhere else. Hopefully this will make out FNRttC departure this evening a mite quieter. Since a large number of the vehicles we meet on the way out of London are Taxis and PHVs, this may not however be the case.

Thanks for route advice. My train goes straight to Waterloo so I will start from there via Birdcage walk and hope to meet at Victoria, then on to hpc at 11.20.

The weather will be a factor in this decision. Anybody have a clue? BBC reckons rain on the South coast and a bit wet on the ride home Tomorrow. XC weather is more optimistic.
