it's down to about 0.1mm now - but a stiff headwind!

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Join the queue for the tandem train!

(Though we're probably bringing the touring tandem as it's easier to take apart for the journey back to 2012, and it's heavier and might not be as effective as carving its way through the air as the LonJoG tandem.)

Brings back memories of Brighton, November ride 3 or 4 years ago. Charlotte and Julian leading a fast train from Turners Hill to Lindfield.
... this time I suspect the word "fast" won't apply...

I've been out testing my wet gear in the dark, rain and muck just in case. So far so good, albeit some vaseline on the rear light seals seems to be required. Unfortunately the gatorskins have started to puncture, so I think I might put the armadillos on. They are hateful to ride on, but as near bullet proof as any tyre I've used (never punctured in over 6,000 miles) and not half as hateful as fixing punctures in the cold and rain at 3am.

Generic chinese machined aluminium cree LED torches with lithium 18650 cells seem also to be immune from water (O rings in all the right places).

I also seem to have found the one pair of gloves in my extensive collection which do seem to keep my hands reasonably dry without being impossibly bulky. Gloves I find the most difficult item of apparel to get right. But we'll see. Me doing 15 miles in moderate drizzle doesn't compare with suffering 5 hours of solid downpour. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

There's a lady from the Met Office who runs one of our local club rides on Sundays, and she says the weather is virtually impossible to forecast accurately at the moment, so be prepared for anything. Having opted out of the Whitstable ride, I don't feel I can let this one beat me.

nb. any strong headwind will be coming from the north east. Isn't that the way to Siberia? Might feel a trifle chilly.

The only gloves in torrential rain worth the name are neoprene canoeing gloves. These keep your hands warm and slightly damp. The very best thing in all cold and wet conditions is Buffalo mittens, or in short, anything that is not a glove. Mittens with flexible palms allow you to fiddle with brakes etc and even when soaking wet still have warm hands. You can even change a tyre at 3am in a torrential downpour and gale force winds after the York to Hull ride while on the return leg to London while wearing Buffalo mittens. DAHIKT.
And yes, it might be a tad chilly on Friday night.

Six years and around 38,000 miles on Armadillos.
Yes, they're not a lovely ride.
But you will continue to ride - as opposed to spending time repairing P*nct*r*s.
Teh Contis and the Vittorias were binned a while ago.

Snow!?

(also, does anyone have a spare heavy hitting front light for Friday night? The 'country lane' light had to go back to the manufacturers this morning, quite possibly as a result of that jaunt to Whitstable)

I might be able to help. It's a high power CREE LED torch with a handlebar mount. It lights up country lanes pretty well. I have a couple and appropriate Lithium rechargeable cells. It's also very well protected against rain...
