Hi everyone, first posting here.

I live in Felpham, about 150 yards from the end point of the 22 April ride and I just tried to register, also offering a place for riders to to hang out for a while while waiting for the train / ride home. But apparently it's not possible for me to join you on the ride because I'm a member of British Cycling and not the CTC. I'm sure that there's a very good reason for this, but right now it's not obvious. Fortunately London, the seaside and the roads in between are all still there for me to ride on regardless of someone's silly made up rules.

Not entirely fair. The insurance thing was entirely out of Simon's hands- read here. Nothing stopping you joining The Fridays and stumping up for CTC associate membership, AFAIK?

Oh, and hello, by the way. I often ride down to your neck of the woods.

I'm often one of the last suppers on a Saturday morning.

If there was a prize for the best pun on this thread I think you've nailed it!

By the way Good Friday is a 'Fast Day' for some people, but not others, depending on religion. As an occasional Catholic, I am hoping this may give me the edge in my speed quest.

Stu - having paid for a British Cycling gold license with its £10 million liability insurance cover, I'm struggling to understand the need to join the CTC as well. Unless the organisers think that I can do even more damage than that....

Entirely understandable, but it's down to the policy terms, unfortunately. Crazy, I know...

Always the way, I'm afraid. Insurance policies - such as yours and the Fridays' one - all have their limitations and exceptions. I'm a member of both AUK and CTC but can't ride in a BC race without getting their insurance.

It's explained here

I've never ridden it, but out of interest, is there the same hoop jumping malarky involved for the Dunwich Dynamo?

No my friend, it is a turn up and ride event. a quck search on this forum will point you in the direction of some CycleChat Expeditionary forces who have done it 'en masse' - with the help of stevevw's camper van. (and you couldn't get a more camper van than Steve's  ).
Have fun!

I'm not sure I'd describe handing over £12 for a year's worth of rides as a "hoop jumping malarkey". The insurance thing is a reluctant development, and a lot of effort has gone into finding a solution that enables everyone to be insured with what is in fact the least possible expense and fannying-about under the circumstances. It's a bit tough on BC and LCC members who don't make the five non-CTC spaces, but something had to give.

Well said. Dcc, I'm sure I speak for all the regulars when I say it's worth the bother, and very small expense. None of us wanted to go down this route, but there was no alternative. A perusal of the threads on this here forum about previous rides will show you why giving up wasn't an option.........Hope you decide to jump through the teeny tiny hoop and find out for yourself.

theres no hoop jumping for dunwich

its just turn up and unsupported... booking a place back on the southwark cyclists buses is the most organised you need to be.

FNRTCC isnt quite the same; theres more support, tail end riders, way markers and organised food stops... more waiting around but its worth it for the fun of it all.
