If you recall, this whole sorry saga got underway precisely because I did email you for details as indicated on the instruction page.
In response you told me I needed to be a CTC member, so, naively it now turns out, I trotted off to the CTC web site to find out more.

You'll notice the complete absence of personal abuse in any of my communication to date. Much like a middle eastern "democratically elected" head of state, scratch the surface by asking the wrong kind of questions and it seems that you turn nasty very quickly.

David
can I direct you to the blogthingy?
http://fnrttc.blogspot.com/
that takes you through registration, 'the basics' and some frequently asked questions, although if you come up with an infrequently asked question I'll do my best to answer it.
If you need to join the CTC via the Fridays then time is of the essence.
Simon

Now, really, we are through.

I gave Simon a quid when we were sitting at a table in a village hall drinking tea. I don't call that any kind of malarky, hoop-jumping or otherwise. If you think it is, then life is plainly going to be difficult for you.

Just for closure you understand: When you say "via the Fridays" are you saying that you facilitate the CTC membership? If this so, and as it was obvious to you that I needed it, why not actually state that this was the case, and also take the opportunity to supply the mechanism for so doing?
Just a bit of feedback which might help misguided blithe unfortunates who might want to join you in the future.

On reflection I think the main reason for my confusion is that with BC membership, you apply directly to BC and then the membership card is delivered via the club. I'm guessing that with CTC it happens the other way round?

You can apply to CTC to join it as an individual member. Your card will be sent to you, not via a club.

If you are already a member of a club, or if you apply to join one and are accepted, you may obtain affiliated membership of the CTC via your club.

Honestly, would it have killed you to click on the link in Simon's email?

That page, yes. The one which says "Check the links to the right" just before the sentence you quoted, with said links to the right including http://fnrttc.blogsp...fridays_06.html ("With regret there are only five places on each ride for LCC and BC members") and http://fnrttc.blogsp...ce-and-all.html which not only answers all the questions you have raised in this thread but most of the other ones you could possibly think to ask as well.

It takes a peculiarly literal type, if you will excuse me for saying so, for interpreting "questions" in that context as anything other than "questions not answered in the links to the right". Are you a computer programmer?

How about coming down to the finish on Saturday morning and meeting some people? That way everyone can understand each other better.

The perfect idea. No harping etc and only one or two of us carry firearms.

£8 if you not doing any of the March rides....
stonking indeed.... even if you already have BC cover, it's a small price to pay to join in with the most fun you can have on a bike after dark.

It's easy to see how sheltered a life some people have led Pete...

And, in keeping with Tim and Martin's religious quest, dcc has added another facet. A 'prebannedery'.

"Easy!"

Come and have a beer dcc... life's too short.

On a good day, with a following wind, and provided that the necessary sacrifices have been made.
Damn! Forgot to include the disclaimer saying that no commitments could be implied or were intended regarding the length of time that may elapse between the two events...

Looks like this is all my fault for which I apologise. Following Dan B's prompting I have looked further and have now found the page that explains the bit about how to pay the 12 pounds. I think it is a bit too buried in the web site and that's why I didn't find it until now. Point for Simon - it really would have been much easier if you had provided a direct link to this page when I emailed you with my query, rather than a link to a page which links to it. Or perhaps a copy and paste in your emailed reply would have worked too, and possibly would have saved some wear and tear on your typing pinkies.

Sorry also about not reading deeply enough into the subtleties of the question asking etiquette. I have always worked on the basis of "if you don't know, ask" rather than ridiculing people who ask the wrong type of question. But then I'm a simple soul.

in my new role as Middle East dictator I shall be issuing them to all my mates. And a few Ugandan mercenaries. In the absence of Ugandan mercenaries I'll hire some from Pagham. Those guys will do anything for a set of Shimano head set bearings and a barrel of GT85
