Easy to spot and say hello then...and no, you won't be unique.

The MET parachute should ensure you know it's me. I would be surprised to see someone else with one.

Next phase of operation over prepare is almost loaded, noodle bar for lunch.

I'm likely to be there early anyway so I'm sure I'll find people and the emergency number is programmed in my phone just in case.

The essential stuff almost definitely isn't :-)

I commute carrying - tyre levers, puncture kit, spare tube, multi-tool with chain breaker, spare quick links, locks good enough for watching the bike from a distance, rubber gloves, not so mini-pump, lightweight waterproof, phone, wallet. I've added a leatherman (because I don't think the quick links can actually be fitted without it), a better screw driver (in case the lights need finagling), a space blanket (light and if I am stuck in the cold and wet it'll be useful). Aside from that I've got some gels etc. beyond the couple I'd normally have and a couple of energy bars, the sleeves, a pair of sealskins to change in to if it gets proper wet, and a long sleeve jersey. It has a 2l platypus in it and I'll have some other food with me I reckon. Ah, and a set of knogs as the back up back up lights.

Partly this is because if I'm good for it I'll be doing a few miles after the ride (plus the ones to it) solo and have a thing about being as self sufficient as possible. I consider it a victory that I didn't put the folding tyre in to be honest...
I think you may be carrying too much. Couple of inner tubes, levers, pump, multitool and you're good to go. Couple of gels if you think you really need them but there is a half way stop.

I think you can fit quick links by hand (it's getting them off that's a b****r)

I have the black one. I am on the lookout for a black and white one because it'll match my bike and I'm a sad fark at times.

It's been out of production for years but this search has shown me there's a new model just coming out, handy if I kill this one.

Yeah I used the word 'essentials' with a touch of irony. I'll be looking to reduce kit with a bit more thought, but I'll live with carrying it tonight. Although now I'm worried I should have put a second innertube in :-)

I'm very big on independence and to be honest the only heavy thing (although it all adds up) over and above your list is the leatherman. What I should do is practice with the quick links to work out if I need the pliers in reality which is the only reason it's in there. Plus I always just shrug when I look at it against my 100kgs.

Blimey, extreme for a FNR. Should be easy to spot then seeing as half the ride doesn't wear helmets and the other half wear the normal plastic jobbies.

It's my standard helmet so it's that or a cap. I commute in it every day, it's mostly holes so not hot and I don't care about looking an idiot, I figure if people are looking at me thinking, "what does he think he is doing, alpine descents?" then at least they've spotted me.
Coming from a motorbike background I'm used to a full face lid and I figure if I'm going to bounce down the road on my face I'd like to keep my chin intact (I've seen MX injuries from faceplants, not pretty.)

Poo!

Was finally going to make an appearance on a FNRttC, but life has got in the way. Again.

What is the ETA at LMNH? I may try to meet folk there tomorrow.

I'm concerned that my stupid body may be letting me down yet again.

I've been having a hard time with allergies these last couple of days thanks to the cumulative effects of hayfever and a coordinated horsefly attack while I stopped to let a tractor pass on a ride the other day. I'm covered in welts, wheezy and lethargic (which may be allergy, or a reaction to all the antihistamines I'm taking), and generally concerned that the last thing I need to do is try and ride a bike through Boris Johnson's lovely clean air.

On the other hand, it's a short, flat ride and should be damp enough that pollen won't be an issue.

Going to make a decision later this evening, I think...

All fixed, now for a small tiny miniature doze-ette. Had packed a small saddlebag with stuff but having seen what that new bloke @w00hoo_kent is bringing I've decided to leave all my stuff behind and use his.
And tonight I might be on the Giant - wivva Compact!
I've also decided it never rains on a fnrttc, viz our French tour was dry all the way, so it's windproof stuff only. And bare knees, to boot.

Nope. Asthma's flared up again. It would be irresponsible to attempt it.

See some of you in Manchester, I hope...
