I have been assured that they are getting extra beer in.

Sadly, Susie, TC and I must away to a street party, there to celebrate Her Maj's Jubbly, and, after, to rest up a bit before our ride to Swansea, so we will be drinking Earl Grey tea, thankyou very much!

Super!

But thats a shame... may not need to order as much beer now then....

Why don't you ride up CS7 through Clapham and Stockwell, then left after the oval? That's the way I would go.
I looked at the map, but that way would still take me through places like Stockwell, which is a fairly horrible junction, and adds at least 1½ miles onto the route. I guess I'll stick with going through Brixton and crossing Kennington Park Road at Oval, with all the horribleness of that junction. On the plus side, at least turning down Kennington Road avoids having to pull out across Kennington Park Road.

If you're cycling back, you're welcome to drop it off at my mother's house in Greenwich and pick it up on the way back - she's in most of the time and I can give you her phone number to make sure that she will be in when you arrive. It's less than half a mile off the route so it wouldn't hold the ride up. Obviously, if you're training it back, it would be a faff doubling back to Greenwich from...er...wherever the trains stop.
Thanks for the offer, but as you might have guessed I'll be taking the train all the way so I'll politely decline.

Chris. That's a bit like inviting your Mum to take tea with Quatermass...

Stockwell is stupid rather than dangerous. People seem to have worked it out. Brixton Road, with all those side streets is a tricky item at night.

Rather bizarrely, I'm happier on most of these roads in rush hour traffic, since most of the car drivers know where they're going, and the amount of traffic can slow things down.

Since I rarely go along either of those roads at that time of night, I'm not sure which is likely to be the busier, and I do know the route through Brixton better than the route from Clapham Common eastward, which I only ever became that familiar with after spending two weeks cycling along it when I was doing jury service several years ago.

It probably wouldn't be a good time to bomb down Brixton Hill (not that it ever is, with the few surprise potholes). ^_^

Ahem. I'm all for a spot of Earl Grey, but it would be churlish not to have a quick pintlington to celebrate Martin's birthday. And Adam's. And McWobble's. I think Her Maj will understand...

Apart from the Earl Grey filth, oh and not particularly caring whether the Queen understands or not, I find myself broadly in agreement. Not too many though because I am thinking of riding to Brighton.

I don't give a monkey's either. I'm just breaking it to DZ gently...

Forget gently - break it to him majestically. Queen Hilda of Lowergearing can have an alternative party in Whitstable Street.
Everyone bring a flag (no, I don't mean a huge flat stone, Stu - even though you are probably toting one onboard) affixed to their bicycle! Tons of stuff in Poundland. No Union Jack underpants though Davy...the world is not ready.
And bring sharpeners, so, like the Queen, eveyone can have a little fillip from time to time.
