Just killing some time with a chatty story.
A few rides back I was out on some quiet country roads that I frequent quite regularly.
I had stopped for a short break, in the middle of nowhere, and I took the opportunity to make a slight adjustment to my adjustable stem.
A local bobby drove up and stopped. He called over and asked if I had a problem. I said "No, just having a break and making some adjustments".
He got out of the car and we chatted about the weather, where I was from, what a nice bike I had. He liked a bit off cycling himself and so on.
He hoped I would have a pleasant ride, got back in his car, waved and drove off.
Since then I see him on a regular basis, sometimes 2 or 3 times on my ride as he travels his beat.
He always gives me a wave and a smile.
I feel reassured at his presence. If something serious should happen, it's nice to know he'd be around.
Of course, Sod's Law says if something serious was to happen, it would be his day off.
Still, I like having him around.

We've got about 6 traffic cars for the whole of South Manchester !

That's good, it means that he is actively noticing cyclists and may spot people on bikes that might be stolen. He may well recognise yours if someone younger and wearing an alternative clothing style is riding it.

In the same way I have no issue with Police stopping and checking me when I am driving. One day they may just be stopping the person who has just nicked it.

Exact same here! Stopped to put extra socks on as feet were freezing (never did warm up lol) and billy bobby stopped to ask if I was ok, less chat about bikes but nice that he stopped

It's nice to see nowadays considering how much hatred the police see. (Btw, I have been a copper for 8 years.)

My brother is in CID in London - he got felled by a cyclist last year whilst chasing a suspect

He still cycles now and again though

No. Didn't get a name or number but next time I see him I'll chase him on my bike and pull him over.

I have a neighbour who is a PC and a cyclist and a thoroughly nice bloke he is too; I've nothing against the Police, they have always been OK with me.

A few years ago I was riding along a quiet lane when I came across a power cable of the sort that feeds remote farms, fallen across the road. Parked in a field entrace was a Police Transit that was bouncing up and down quite vigorously; I sidled around half expecting to find a gentleman constable giving some, er, energetic attention to a lady constable in the back but no... it was just a bored and very young PC who had been sent out to keep an eye until the electrickery people turned up, jumping up and down on the back step of the van to pass the time. He was a bit embarrassed to see me so we spoke a only few words before I went on my way.

I often see a local PCSO out and about. In good weather he walks about 5 miles to Rhyl. I have spoken to him a few times (about things) and he has always seemed nice.
He got on my bus today but unfortunately I didnt have the chance to speak to him.

He doesnt really know me but when I see any police officer, it reassures me that there is some form of enforcement on the streets. Even if it is a voluntary one.

My son was given a lift home by a police officer during the heavy snow the other week. He had been out for a few beers with his mates and decided to walk home despite the weather and the fact he was wearing a T-shirt! Officer spotted him walking along in a near blizzard, and stopped and gave him a lift.

A police car stopped and asked if i was ok on a country lane a few weeks ago, nice of them to check as it was getting dark and i was changing a flat tyre .If i had been unprepared i would have been very grateful that they stopped to see if i was ok .

Well, OK, but when I was younger, quite a lot younger as it happens, but still a perfectly respectable and law-abiding working man, I used to be stopped at least weekly for the "crime" of having an old, but fully legal car. Gets unfunny after a while. Quite amusing was "you're strangers in town" - this was on the A40, admittedly in West Wales, even though the car had Carmarthenshire numberplates.
