YMMV, but I had wide arm cantis on the Long Haul Trucker, and didn't get on with them.

They're ok, but I found they lacked power (Tektro CR720, Tiagra drop bar levers). I went for Oryx, with the straddle from the CR720s set fairly low - brakes have to be gapped very close to the rim, but lots of stopping power - I like that set up much better.

I imagine it depends on the setup- i've got 520's with ultegra levers and the back wheel locks up on request.

Like I say, ymmv. No chance on the LHT at all, not without braking from the drops with a fair amount of force.

I suspect a bike with smaller clearances (allowing a lower straddle) might perform better.

RT, you can get a nifty adjustable straddle for the froglegs, iirc. Makes keeping your desired clearances easier.
