What to do if your front Derailleur is bent and causes your chain to rattle against it?

well ive tried that but made it worse, although its fine at the minute but just depends what gear im in. I would take it to Halfords, but not at this Critical time with this Covid 19

Are you sure it is bent?
The chain can rub on the front mech if the wrong gear is selected ie. cross gearing, big front, big back.

Then buy and fit a new one? It will probably work out cheaper than Halfrauds fixing it.

Have you tried adjusting the limit screws, as @Spiderweb says you are almost certain to get to chain rub when cross gearing which does provide an audible indication that you really need to change onto the other chainring.

Thanks. Yep one of my relatives gave me instructions but it is defintly bent. Is it easy enough to fix a new one?
I'm not shore what one to find...As in sizing

How many front gears, 2 usually?
How many rear gears as that may dictate the width of the cage?
How is it attached to the seat tube?
Then have a look at the likes of Wiggle to see what is available.

They also come in top/bottom pull, top/bottom swing - quite a few variations. If you can post a picture that would help. Also type of bike, no of gears. Shimano derailleurs usually have a model number on the inside face somewhere.

They are pretty pliable and easy to bend back, so long as you know what shape to aim for.

Ask Halfords to supply 👍 give your local open branch a call. Spec says it’s an Altus

there are of course several models so why not ust google for one that looks the same with the same attachment?

Take a few photos from different viewpoints indicating the bends. IF its bent, it would be cheaper to replace, importantly, more reliable.
