Shut Up Legs

I understand your frustration. The last time I replaced my front shifter cable, for some reason I had major problems threading the cable through the STI shifter mechanism. I was doing it all by the book, i.e. with the shifter switched to the small chain ring position, but it took me about 20 tries to get the damned cable in . I'm getting more comfortable with front and rear derailleur adjustment (and cable replacements), having only learned it for the first time earlier this year, but I found this was the hardest part of the job.

Can't offer any more help as all the above is spot on. However, Once you get the cable out, when fitting cables make sure you put the shifter in the lowest gear. If you operate the shifter first without the cable you will see that the guide moves round, shift until the guide hole is in full view before inserting the cable, then once the cable is in it is imperative that you keep the tension on the cable or the head will pop out and go into the shifter leaving you were you are now.
