Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
I once got stopped at night for doing 30 in a 30 zone, and the bobbies thought that was suspicious. I pointed out that I was hardly likely to speed with a marked 3 litre Senator up my jacksy, was I?
I would say you'd be surprised, but I bet you wouldn't. Not that the police now have time to stop all the visible lawbreakers while they're rushing to the next appointment.

Yep. 1.2L engines and below should be outlawed on dual carriageways and motorways.

The most underpowered car I've owned in the last few years was a 2003 VW Polo 1.2E. Its noisy asthmatic three cylinder engine was rated at 55BHP.
Even that car could maintain 70mph southbound up Balmanno bank on the M90, which is the steepest UK motorway gradient.

How about this, boys & grilles?

I've had Fabia courtesy cars with that, & my mother had a Corsa that (I'm sure) was a 3-cylinder

Funnily enough, I had exactly the same experience on my 750 Norton.
Coming back from Solihull late one night, riding at the 30 speed limit, I got pulled, totally unnecessarily, by a marked Rover P5 that had been tailing me for about a mile. The copper was very sarcastic - "That's a very steady 30 mph you were doing there..... Sir" - so I gave him the same reply as you did.
There was nothing he could do as everything was in order, so I was on my way again.*

*I think he may have recognised me from the time I was chased out of Solihull. I lost them that time and they obviously didn't get my number.
In the late 1970's I had a MZ 250, I remember one night dropping a mate off then being followed right across Coventry, Holbrooks to Earlsdon, by a marked cop car. I also remember being stopped on my way to work one Saturday morning, by a copper on foot patrol who just stepped into the road and put his hand up.

Those MZ's were pretty economical strokers.

They were crude but effective, if I remember correctly about 60-70mpg and it would sit on the motorway happily at 70, which was almost flat out.
