I want to go out on my bike now so I'll tell you where I have been looking, but so far have been unable to find the right view from (and therefore the road). I think we are looking towards the Hope cement works with its quarry and big chimney. We must be somewhere to the south and east but how far S and how far E I haven't worked out!

I will be offline until at least 10 pm. I'll check in later to see if I was right or if I need to keep on looking.

Damn... this is addictive! I want to find it before I go out. I have almost exactly the same view now but I haven't spotted the road yet...

To be honest, I knew I was looking from the right area and I saw the view from one section of Ringinglow Road looked very similar. The fence did too so that was my guess - I was rushing to go out so I didn't double check first.

I came back on to confirm it now and would have noticed that it wasn't quite right so... I nearly named that road! Looks like I will have to claim it though. :okay:

Your Peak District roads always make me fancy another trip down with my bike. Maybe next year...

PS I have a vague recollection of the cement works being discussed on the forum before. I don't know if it was in this thread or elsewhere though.

It's actually adjacent, "The Dale", but I think it's probably what you meant.

Taken from this bench, a lovely place to take a breather.

OOh I've actually cycled up there> stopped off on my way between Herts and Yorks a goodly while back, parked up in a layby somewhere near Hathersage and did a loop up Winnats and down Edale then a loop the other side via Sparrowpit and back down Edal again, and then as the legs were still feeling good finished off up The Dale and down Ringlow Road.

knowing Colin... within a day's ride of Todd is the logical place to start. Failing that, he also regularly rides in Devon.
That is one of the minor clues... A broad lane with dry stone walls, rather than a singletrack lane hemmed in by huge hedges!

I keep thinking that I have done this one before but I couldn't find it mentioned in this thread when I checked.

the horse sign is making me consider that the road might be crossed by the Pennine bridleway thingy... but I'm trying to avoid looking, otherwise I'll lose an entire afternoon.

No, it's just a country road that often has horses on it!

I have just noticed something else about the road. I will use it as a clue later, if needed.

Apart from the walls, one of the other minor clues is the standard one - shadows. They give a very good indication here of the direction that the road is heading in.
