Gatwick Airport help, please

When I've been early to the Gatwick, I've taken the next exit south and turned left at the roundabout - there's a layby with an occasionally open mobile café. It's only about 12 minutes from the airport.

Might as well use the free pick up option from long stay, takes the uncertainty away

If you're referring to the A246 layby, it's free.

No I was more referring to charging people who are picking up in the drop-off point

My dad picked us up and dropped us off in the Gatwick Hilton car park just before Christmas, take a ticket, get it stamped in the hotel reception, go back out, no charge.

I should maybe point out that this wasn't some dodgy way to get around paying , the hotel reception we're more than happy to do this for us.

Off on a Norwegian cruise shortly, but the night before I need to pick up my sister at Gatwick Airport station. I will be in the car.
Now the airport blurb says there is free pick up (but no waiting) on both North and South Terminal forecourts. The south terminal is closest to our overnight hotel.
But it isn't very clear on google maps where exactly it means by this. The closest I have got is below, but it appears to be only a bus stop. I don't want to get moved on, have to find somewhere to park to phone her to make another rendezvous!

The website also says there is an Express pick up point in the Orange Short stay, but google doesn't know where that is either, and the maps don't seem to have the colour codes for the car parks on them.

I go past that layby a lot. A few weeks ago there was a board up advertising the services of two ladies offering a "good time".

Wait in the Tesco car park along with all the other uber drivers. Then go to the drop off. It is what my dad does when he picks me and the kids up. But you have to coordinate the pick up via mobile phone.

Uber now have a block of spaces they rent in a Horley town centre car park from the local council. It's got a geofence around it, so the Uber computer knows when they're there and manages the queue automagically. It's all part of a scheme to stop the Uber drivers pissing in hedges around the borough.
