The bicycle industry should hold its head in shame at the fiasco resulting from the number of gear hangers in use and on offer. As an Engineer, I support standardisation at every opportunity, it is better for the manufacturers, marketeers and customers.
I have just downloaded a file from Goldtec/BETD who have 208 different gear hangers on offer. Utterly ridiculous.
I want to buy one to put it in the drawer - just in case. The problem actually identifying the one I want has taken me the best part of a day and I am still uncertain that I have got it right. I was prompted to start this by mates who have related horror stories when trying to get replacement hangers.
I have now got to go through the process all over again for my second bike.
I wonder if I am going to have the time to ride them.
