Thinking of getting this on next years cycle to work scheme - anybody got one? tried one? any reviews on how it performs?

No but I would love one. Big clearance, racks compatible, disks etc. looks great.

some of the reasons why it appeals - can use it on the rural towpaths with cyclocross tyres too - according to the blurb the rear hub with front 40tooth and rear 20tooth is the equivalent of running a 12-38 cassette - pretty wide spread gearing

If money were no object the Surly Straggler would be a good choice, but even if I could afford it, I think it is overpriced for what is quite a heavy bike. The Croix De Fer look awesome and will probably be coming to stable sometime next year.

Probable some big jumps in between gears then if that is the case. That Di2 hub one is a novel idea.
i'm just looking at different ideas really - the bike will be used for commuting only. its a 30mile round trip with 1200ft of climbing to get home, its all on cycle tracks so speed isn't really anything thats needed, track is very quiet in the mornings going downhill into work - busy on the way home but its up hill then anyway

I'm builiding an equilibrium 20 (2013 frame), however the frame doesn't have rack mounts, mine will attach to the seat post collar. The 10 with Tiagra will be in budget

Mine should come in under 10kg once done

I love the look of Genesis bikes (I may have one myself...) and that is no exception. Haven't ridden it though so can't help you on that score.

I would consider buying it just to look cool though so you might want to disregard my opinion ;)

Built 20 almost in budget ;) I am building as I didn't want Shimano gearing

Actually the 2014 '10' is over budget, but a lush colour (same colour as my car  )

The 00 comes in under but Sora, and a lesser steel

The Eastway steel commuter is rather lush but quite heavy, but does have SRAM

I was a knats hair away from doing the same, decided to pay more into my pension instead (boring!) and look for a bargain in the new year.....
