Car cleaned, but shed roof can wait another day cos by 'eck as like it's cold! No rain forecast for a few days so no urgency.

Just put my feet up with Pravda (AKA The Guardian, the Mrs' choice but nice to keep tabs on the Commies) and Lemmy has settled down on my feet. Clearly Sunday afternoon might be a relaxed affair.

That's good you have found a life that suits, the OP has still to do that though. We are all different and still have different goals and aspirations. When I first went back to work, I spent the first year enjoying working just 35 hour weeks, but then for no obvious reason my mojo came flooding back and I decided that if I was going to do this job, I was going to do it well and started identifying different opportunities within my own role that I could exploit. I feel as if I'm now as hungry as ever but with a much better work life balance. Cash stopped motivating me some time ago.

You done well, I could not stick a job I hate for a week, let alone 30 years. Why did you not change earlier to something you enjoyed doing, with maybe fewer hours.

Take The Long Walk.

The Long Walk is when a Judge leaves the city for the Cursed Earth or the Undercity to "bring law to the lawless".

Some aging Judges choose the Long Walk because they no longer meet the physical requirements to patrol Mega City One as a Street Judge, but cannot imagine themselves retiring to a desk job or teaching post at the Academy of Law. Other Judges might take the Long Walk if they have been somehow disgraced or disillusioned. As you know I have been self employed or run my own business for over 40 years now, pick the wrong trade and you certainly get the hours to go with it, this is why I off loaded my car sites as soon as I stopped enjoying them. What I do now is a real pleasure and so often does not feel like work, I know I am lucky to have found something I get a real buzz out of.

When you look back over all them long hours and no holidays do you sometimes wish that you had worked for the civil service or the suchlike.

Mind you the grass is always greener and all that stuff, I am glad that you enjoy life now and long may it continue.

Not entirely true, all it really took me was a bit of research and planning. If you are happy then fine, but there are alternate routes open to all.

Why don't you turn to petty crime, bit of shoplifting, maybe the odd break-in and some taking and driving? It'll keep you busy if you're always on the look out for stuff to nick and it'll keep you fit and active.

I retired twelve months ago and I think its great, a little cycling, some yoga, time with the family, looking after the garden in the summer, doing the house work and the odd jobs, its better than working.

But, what if you enjoyed this thing called work more than gardening, housework etc. I am always happy to see people enjoying retirement and we get loads in the pool each morning.

By the time I retired I'd had enough, I'd worked from the age of 15, I hadn't had much time of, when I wasn't in full time employment I was doing temporary work, when I had the mortgages and the kids were small, my gaffa didn't ask if I wanted overtime he would just tell me it was on, for a couple of years there I was averaging 56 hours a week.

Obviously not, can't even be bothered to turn on the laptop now. We may need to pass the hat round and arrange a home help for him, maybe a meal on a wheel now and again.

I got it and I know he will thank me for this great idea.

First he signs his pension over to me, then he will have to go and earn some dosh. Nothing like being skint to give you some motivation.

Spent the morning out shooting, the afternoon shopping, tidying and cooking as Mrs Drago is having a bad health spell. If she doesn't improve the GP has said they'd hospitalise her, which really will keep me busy.
