Gilding paint instead of re-chroming - anyone tried it?

Having picked up a Peugeot PY10 LS at the weekend I've seen the forks are fine but the rear triangle chrome has almost all come off. The other missing paint is fine as I've got the same colour already from a previous project.

Has anyone tried gilding paint instead of having something re-chromed? I've seen this: https://godfreys-ear.co.uk/products/guild-lane-gild-chrome

Is that the equivalent of those dyes that claim to make your black T-shirt white.😏

I’ve tried ‘chrome’ paints (not that one) but they didn’t work. Have a tin of spray paint I have yet to try.

I have had success with aluminium foil for a headset and a brake hanger, glueing a patch with the shiny side up. ‘Gilding’ the piece, if you will. Super glue seems more amenable to sanding when it needs replaced.

Not sure this will apply to stays, though. I’d be inclined to use some ‘cure-rust’ or similar that leaves a black finish, and call it done -an ‘honest repair’.
