Gilding paint instead of re-chroming - anyone tried it?

Having picked up a Peugeot PY10 LS at the weekend I've seen the forks are fine but the rear triangle chrome has almost all come off. The other missing paint is fine as I've got the same colour already from a previous project.

Has anyone tried gilding paint instead of having something re-chromed? I've seen this: https://godfreys-ear.co.uk/products/guild-lane-gild-chrome

Is that the equivalent of those dyes that claim to make your black T-shirt white.😏

A mate used it on some classic car badges. Good finish, not quite proper chrome but good. I think for the best finish he painted them black first.
