It’s no secret I want Yates to win. I’d be happy with Del to win though. Not sure Carapaz can make up the time. Ayuso will get stronger in the mountains & win the Giro I reckon. Once he catches Del up he’ll take team leader. If he can’t do that then I blame the stitches in his knee.

I expect Ineos to try something today for Bernal. They've been unusually active in this 'new' version of themselves.
It will probably be futile but it could be fun.

Browsing the stage profiles I haven't seen any "categoria specilale" (or whatever the Giro-ese is for HC).

Now that could be because I didn't browse assiduously enough. Or it could just be the whim of the course designers - I know categorisation is a bit more art than science. So looking for meaning in it may be futile.

Is this actually a relatively easy giro climbing-wise? No, not according to the pundits who said there's a record amount of elevation in the last week. So have they deliberately stacked it with cat 1s?

Giro doesn't have an HC - they do have the Cima Coppi for the highest point (extra points in the KoM)

It can all change on the last mountain stages but the difference here is that UAE are so strong with climbers, DelToro can count excellent support.

True, but its no good your team mates being strong if your own legs have gone, although they can help limit your losses if you get dropped.

3 virtually summit finishes this week so I think we'll see plenty of attacks and movement in the top ten. I'm hoping Simon Yates has been just stealthily keeping his powder dry for this week and he can benefit from latching onto the right attacks.

Izzat so? I hadn't noticed. I was sure I could recall a special category thing in the past. I'm probably confusing it with the Vuelta.

Anyway, that explains the preponderance of category 1s, thanks.

Its also hard to go over the highest passes in Italy in May as a lot are still cover in snow / only just being dug out and opened

Primoz Roglic: "I don't really think it's realistic anymore to do the GC. I will see if I can ride my bike today."
Feel for him....wish he'd call it a day and concentrate on the Tour if he's in pain ☹️
