Bernal coming in sixth place today...one above Simon Yates 😍

He seemed to be fighting hard to hold onto the group all day. It feels like he's made another big step forward on his recovery in this race, last year he seemed to lose the GC group as soon as the real racing started. I don't see him winning another GT but a podium is a possibility which would be huge considering what he has been through.

There was talk yesterday that the team are planning for him to target GC at the Vuelta and that is why he has been trying to stay with the GC group here rather than targetting stages, seeing how he gets on amongst the race favourites over 3 weeks. I guess they may want to re-think their plan.

Seems a huge stretch. His best result so far is 13th in the 2023 Tour, which sounds like he's knocking on the door of the top 10, but in reality, he was 47 minutes behind 1st place, and 21 minutes behind 10th.

No idea how he'll do tomorrow but today 'might' have been jour sans, and his climbing does seem to be improving. For me, the main barrier to him becoming a genuine GC GT guy is his time trialling which is toujours sans.

It's a light TT Vuelta which might paper over the cracks for him (although I doubt he'll have a great squad for the TTT).

You wonder if the heat has sapped everyone.

It looked to have shocked a few didn't it ... Yates is fading ...carapaz is blunter than he was .....

Was listening to Storer earlier who said there were no attacks because almost everyone was on their limit....a lot more demanding than it looked.

If UAE are the only team with numbers again tomorrow it's going to be difficult. Visma lads got upmthe road but just couldn't do enough damage
