When my lad was a teenager he was a keen club/county swimmer. His coach (who had swum for GB in the Paralympics (sp?)) had lost the lower half of one leg as a child.
I used to take a bike when I dropped my son off for his early morning training sessions, to go for a quick spin while he was ploughing up and down the pool. One morning I got talking to the coach about bikes etc.
He told me that as a teenager, his grandpa had taken him to try track cycling. He was itching to have a go, so wearing his track suit bottoms, he set off and was really enjoying himself, until...his prosthetic leg flew off! He found it hilarious, but said that it scared the sh*t out of the other youngsters on the track, who didn't know of his disability.
