Glass - be very careful in London

If you are doing an early morning London commute - be very careful. It isn't just the headline town centres that were hit tonight. Many small and obscure corner shops have been done in the suburbs here in SE London. So expect glass and plenty of it about.

Spare tube and patches might be a good idea. Still a fairy visit is nothing to what many people have suffered.

Good call. I wonder if all those youths on brand new Halfords bikes will take extra care around Brixton and Peckham today?

A good few shops smashed and looted on my commute this morning. Argos, Tescos, Blockbusters, some jewellers etc and yep there's a lot of glass about. But it's very calm out there. Like a normal morning. However, this evening things may be different.

Tooting & Clapham were pretty clear. There was glass on the road at Stockwell - probably related to Blockbusters as mentioned by Crockofgold.

A few piles of glass - mostly looking automotive, although there was a glazing truck which had a number of broken panes on it.

Work is clear (my son reassured me that there were no shops at Elephant & Castle worth raiding), but I understand Walworth Road has suffered badly.

I was there last night extracting my wife who was trapped after leaving work at the E&C. They just dumped them off the 176 with no explanation.

There was a seething mass of zombified masked hoodies to navigate. Quite scary. It was like a Doctor Who set - except turning up in a Police Box might not be the greatest idea ... the pie & mash shop was torched.

Maybe one of these would have been better?

Was a bit hairy last night in the suburbs around bickley and chislehurst. Kids driving the streets with vans to fill with "stock" from looting. The sad thing is the sort of shop they are looting, a tiny corner shop in bickley selling kids bikes and really obscure cheap brand family BSO's... and a grocers..no real value .

The Currys in Holmesdale road (dripping tap) was emptied by around 2.00. Myself and a few neighbours were patrolling the streets taking number plates and filming cars as the local plod were informing us that the kids were now moving into the burbs.

A neighbour of mine was in Bromley high street talking to the attending police and said it was surreal, people were standing and watching as kids (lots of girls) just helped themselves, some going back time and again to get different sized clothing.

I suspect there will be a backlash this evening, people wont sit back and let this happen to their houses once the kids get bored of doing over shops.

I avoided Mare Street last night but rode it this morning slightly worried about glass but in three separate areas at Mare Street, Aldgate and Whitechapel the roads and pavement were pristine like they'd be swept and then hoovered

well done whoever was in charge of that

if I'd have come across bother last night I'd have gladly volunteered to help the cops, if they had a sheild, helemt and big stick in my size

and any interest i getting in there and sorting it out

this is the price we pay for having and ignoring and despising an underclass of chavs and whatnots

I packed up a puncture repair kit and pump before leaving the house...Bethnal Green Road didn't seem too bad, most damage had been swept up and all the attacked shops boarded up. Crazy days though...I had to quickly swerve into a side street last night after seeing a car tipped on its side and a hoarde of kids rampaging on Roman Road.
