Thanks for all the good info again!

I'll definitely be getting myself some bike shorts as that's the advice from everybody whose chimed in. Unfortunately I'm going to have to keep the price down. Anyone have a suggestions for a short manufacturer that makes decent models in the lower price range?
Decathlon do well priced cycle kit, not sure how wide spread they are in
the US https://www.decathlon.com/pages/store-finder

Pearl Izumi a very good US brand, maybe you could find a reduced deal somewhere.
Eg https://www.pearlizumi.com/US/en/shop/men/shorts-bibs/shorts/road/mens_escape_quest_short/p/11111703
Or bib version https://www.pearlizumi.com/US/en/sh...s/road/mens_escape_quest_bib_short/p/11111704

try your local Dicks or similar? You could even try Target or Walmart maybe? Give the pad a feel of what they have in stock

Brooks every time. Only ever considered padded cycle underwear on long trips. Brooks are fabulous things when adjusted as they wear in.

another vote for the spoon or if you want a less classic looking saddle a fabric scoop radius .
Mine was £18 & was far better than the stock saddle the bike came with, it might be good idea to measure your sit bones by putting some corrugated cardboard on a firm surface, then measure the distance between the dents, this will give you an idea of the width of saddle for your needs.
