Why dont modern film offer this charm anymore? On the telly now.. Its got me thinking, I've seen this film before and it reminded me of Baron Münchhausen, so the later film must have been influenced.

The Four Feathers is another old film I loved. Again it has that old British charm, people are polite even when they're being rude.

The Lady Killers, Brief Encounter, The titfield Thunderbolt ....oh hold on, all of those happen to include trains

DR STRANGELOVE!

Oh yes, and Strategic Air Command, purely for total aviation gems like this. These are what the B52 replaced and boy, what a film - it looks like something out of Thunderbirds!:

And I haven't seen this, but I just love this from a few years later!:

Also, changing the subject, there was To Kill A Mockingbird

Love the Lady Killers. Dark, dark content but done so comedically that Sellers' and Guiness' genius shine right through

I remember Colonel Blimp being a good film. However, my fave Powell & Pressburger film is The Black Narcissus. All those nuns getting hot under the wimple, all over a barechested colonial agent. All that emotional pain.

Agree totally about Colonel Blimp, did you know Churchill tried to get it banned for some reason!

I've just watched another P&P film: 49th Parallel. Once you get over the fact that the Nazis spoke English and had a posh accent it's an excellent film, particularly the ending.
