Guy I know was burgled while in bed last night - all the scrotes wanted were the keys to his van and Audi car parked outside his house.

Vehicles were driven away at around 2:30 am.

Guy phoned police, told them he had a tracker on the van but not on the car.

A couple of hours later, both vehicles were recovered - van parked on a forecourt on an industrial estate and car round the block from said forecourt.

Good stuff.

Trackers are so cheap nowadays that I don't understand why they're not standard fitting to all vehicles. I use a Rewire Security TK-102 which cost me £40, which includes the first year's subscription to the live tracker site (£10 annually). I can even phone the tracker and listen to what's going on wherever it is.

Audi's a a big target for CKB's. Another good reason not to own one.

Glad you friend got his vehicles back. Hopefeully they're in good shape.

Next time you upgrade to a new phone...

Take old handset.

Whack in cheap PAYG SIM of your choice.

Download whatever tracking app you fancy, or sign up to phone tracking service of your choice.

Set handset to mute.

Find a switched power supply, attach the phone and conceal it up behind the dash, wherever.

Enjoy vehicle tracking for virtually no cost.

How long does the battery last (not hardwired in)?.

It can last from 16 hours to 30 days depending on how you set it up. They also sell a hardwired version but I like the portability of mine; I can use for the car, my drone, my camera bag, my suitcase etc. (Also good if you have an elderly relative with dementia.)

Glad he got the vehicles back, not sure how it's great Police work tho - follow tracker, find vehicle. Drive around a bit and find other vehicle close by.

I dinnae think Conan Doyle would have got too many sales of "Sherlock Holmes and the case of following the bleeper"... ;)

Ok call it "Great Police Response" if you like - so often the complaint put is "I reported a crime and the police did nothing" - I've heighted an instance where they were prompt and effective.

I'd settle for "Police do their job" ;)

I'd settle for "Police do their job" ;)

In my experience (couple of burglaries, one attempted burglary I disturbed in progress, wife assaulted on way back from tube, me mugged at knife point, attempted break in to garage, drug dealers setting up shop in park across the road)* the police have always done their job to an exemplary standard - as in this case.

I posted as a contrast to the posts that say "Police don't do their job"

* this is London and over the 30 year we have lived here, pretty much par for the course in terms of crime experience.

This is standard procedure for all professional car thieves.

1- take vehicle

2- Park it someplace that they can observe.

3- Leave for three days, if it is recovered, it has a tracker

4- If it is not recovered, flog the car on, or stick it on the next ferry to the continent.

Unfortunately the thieves knew what they were doing.
