This is standard procedure for all professional car thieves.

1- take vehicle

2- Park it someplace that they can observe.

3- Leave for three days, if it is recovered, it has a tracker

4- If it is not recovered, flog the car on, or stick it on the next ferry to the continent.

Unfortunately the thieves knew what they were doing.

Sadly, very likely true.

Immobiliser activated cyanide gas canisters might be a better solution than a tracker?

It seems the scrotes have worked out how to peel the doors open, seems to be all over the contry now..

Carpet grippers are also a deterrent on the upper edge of the door.

Trackers are a good thing and make it incredibly simple for the police to find the vehicle.

True story: several years ago I got invited to a promotional event one of the tracking companies was running. Based on a large industrial estate, a car fitted with a tracker was hidden and we were dispatched to find it in a car with the tracking equipment fitted.
Five minutes into our search someone spotted a police helicopter overhead, followed a couple of minutes later by a traffic car roaring past us with the blue lights on.
Turned out the tracking firm hadn't told the police about the event and the helicopter, which had been in the area on another job had picked up a "live" signal, diverted to look for the "stolen" car and called in ground support....

A friend told me that's what the thieves do with horse boxes.... nick them then put it in a field for a couple of days to see if it's recovered. And luckily hers was recovered.
