I have seen the lift guy refuse a cyclist entry to the lift, and tell him that he will be waiting for him at the top for further discussion man to man.
They binned off all the lift operators a few year ago, in the name of "savings".

I'm sorry?
I'm a normal sized person surrounded by dwarves ok. I get touchy about it sometimes.

It was meant in a funny way that probably didn't come across!!

You're a lucky bloke; it is said that tall people are the most intelligent. IME they are usually the most placid.

It's ridiculous and I mostly walk through it. The only time I ride is when there is no-one else in there, and even then at a fairly slow speed. It's about common sense, but unfortunately lots of people who cycle through it don't exercise theirs (if indeed they have it).

The other day one guy (exiting the lift after having come down) started shouting at another (entering the lift to go up) because he had the temerity to turn his bike around outside the lift, thus blocking the man emerging from it from cycling off down the tunnel. I almost said something along the lines of 'you shouldn't be cycling down here anyway' but then realised there's absolutely no point.

The sad thing is that I'd say 8/10 cyclists cycle through rather than walking. If I hear one coming I move over ever so slightly to the middle (assuming there are no pedestrians coming the opposite way) so they have to slow down, sometimes even stop, just to get around me. I have been glared at often, but no-one has said anything yet. Not sure how I will react when they do. I know an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, but it's just so much fun

I'd say it was nearer 95/100.

As I wrote above, I would ride if there weren't any peds in the way. Why walk (or run) when God gave us the brains to invent then ride bicycles?

There are a group of cyclists around Greenwich who seem to think the whole pedestrian area in front of the tunnel entrance is fair game and the fact that the one way aspect of King William Walk doesn't apply to them cos otherwise they'd have to cycle oooh 200 yards further around the one way system.
An alternative view might be that the E-W part of Cutty Sark Gardens is a national cycle route (NCN1) and the only ''no cycling'' sign I've ever seen is on the western entrance to the gardens. For a while, community support officers tried to enforce no cycling but local cyclists got the CSO handlers at the council to call them off. The North-South route is a major cycling route and, again, there are no signs noticeable. There's not even any pressure for space. I did hear that the unofficial cycle contraflow up King William Walk - clearly a popular ''desire line'' was going to be made official. But clearly that hasn't happened yet. As Nevada Street - the sanctioned access to the park - is one way there is no child friendly exit from the park. Nevada Street is fairly narrow and, what with the parked vehicles on one side, there may not be room to safely put a contraflow in there. I'd support allowing cycling on the path at the bottom of the hill leading to Gloucester Circus - that would allow children into Greenwich without having to negotiate the one way system. It seems fair enough for a recreational area such as a park to integrate itself with routes outside the park. But it is a Royal Park, relying heavily on the income from the 200+ parking spaces on the Avenue at the top of the hill....

Those lovely Cycle Chat peeps walk through the tunnel... then stop and hang about not letting anyone pass

That's because one of you is clearly a troll.

I ride through the Woolwich Tunnel, because so few people walk through it, unlike the Greenwich Tunnel. I suspect the no cycling rule was put in place, when the Docks were in operation and the tunnel was much busier. But now I think they should rescind the by-law and allow cycling. There are plenty of shared use paths on both sides of the Thames that are both narrower and busier.

That's all well and good, but there are always those who take things too far and inconvenience/endanger pedestrians, and spoil it for other, more sensible cyclists.
