Guy claiming PIP

Also whats very rarely mentioned is that billions of pounds worth of benefits go unclaimed every year because people just either dont know what to claim or dont want claim either.
I had a friend who was dying of cancer and she could have claimed PIP under special rules, she ended up about 5 stones in weight but she didn't claim what she was entitled to.
"Benefit fraud" is a politically motivated deflection from other issues that the Government dont want people to focus on. Like tax evasion, or how much overall we have given to the Ukraine, our weapons sales to Israel etc.

Its worth mentioning that PIP is notoriously hard to get. You have to be very unwell to qualify for it.

And occasionally the powers to be ask the claimant to do an assessment where you are scored points to see if you are eligible

PIP is also a benefit that isn’t means tested as it’s to compensate for those with a long term health condition or illness which means they can’t work. It is supposed to be akin to a salary in lieu of working and therefore it doesn’t matter what your income, savings or living position is. However, that said the person you are living with might be effected if on UC as you need to declare it.

PIP is not related to whether you can work or not and it's not "supposed to be akin to a salary in lieu of working".

If you are on the higher rate of PIP you get a mobility allowance which can be put towards the Mobility Scheme instead of given as cash and you can get almost any car on a lease; some luxury brands included however you may need to make an upfront payment.

I was going to say the same. I know someone who is on PIP and has a very nice SUV. He also enjoys gardening and generally going out and doing things. but has migraines about twice a week which confines him to a dark room. On the outside it may look like someone is milking the system, but unless you know what they are going through it could be a different story. I'm just going to say, if I had been working all my life and was then disbaled enough to claim PIP, I'd get everything I could. I think most people would. The alternative is to do what my Grandad did and be too proud to claim anything. He could hardly walk for 20 years, took him 10 mins to get out of the car sometimes (which he wasn't really safe to drive anyway) yet he insisted that he was ok. He died leaving my Gran in a lot of financial difficulty and luckily my mum bought her a flat, but she was still pretty much penniless after bills and food shopping.

Two examples of someone who gets PIP when people MIGHT think they shouldn't.
My wife...had cancer with profound effects on her so that's almost a given shes eligible, yet if it were means tested (which it's not) some people.may think we're too well off and home owners so shouldnt get it.

Our son is perhaps a better example.
Mental health issues, finds it very difficult to manage money (yes, that's a 'condition that can contribute toward getting PIP and has anxiety issues (diagnosed PTSD) so will not travel on a bus, doesn't like events or lots of people etc etc...yet you'd look at him and think there's nothing wrong with him, outwardly a normal looking person.

That said, people do have their suspicions sometimes, its human nature. My wife used to work with a teacher who 'apparently' has that 'tiring' condition (can't remember the name) and gets highest rate PIP. She travels abroad two or three times a year, always posting on social media what she's doing at weekends, seemlingly has boundless energy when not at work yet frequently off with her condition during the week.
It's natural to be suspicious, most of her colleagues are...

In my experience, and understanding of the entire PIP process, every application is based on a points based assessment. Granted not many are face to face but the full 43 page questionnaire is very much an assessment of the individual's needs and abilities.
