on a roundabout this morning. the driver didnt see me and ploughed into the side of me. i went on the bonnet and then rolled off and skidded along the roadbed.

I am ok but waiting for results of a foot scan at A&E .....that is the only painful area except for roadrash. lucky...coukd have been much worse.

I got some pics too. couldn't find my glasses anywhere so have lost them too.

for the impending practicalities, I don't have insurance, not a member of cycle uk or have it included on my house insurance. my bike looked ruined but need to inspect further (it's just locked up at roadside at the moment). the driver has some damage to his car....will I be entitled to anything from hi insurance. think this is a lesson for me...will definitely get some insurance.

the driver was reasonable and apologised, said the sun was in his eyes and was adjusting his viser and next thing I was right in front of him. we exchanged contact details and he already texted to see how I got on at the hospital.

bad day but could have been much worse. it's a large roundabout but generally quiet so drivers often don't expect to stop so often barely brake.

Thanks in advance and I know I should have been insured really.

If the driver is at fault, their insurance will pay for repairs to their car, and more importantly, repairs to you and your bike.

Yesterday a driver decided not to stop for me on a roundabout, came within an inch, she was well over the stop point when she finally slammed on the brakes.
She didn't give a toss. I stopped before an inevitable collision fortunately.

Get well soon

You need his car insurance details and any witness names and addresses. Some household policy's have legal protection so you might try that and get a bit of legal help. I would not go anywhere near any of these Companies that say they offer to sort out your accident claim for free. You will probably finish up paying them more than you get. This leaves dealing with the guy's Insurance Company or engaging your own solicitor to sort it out for you. Doing it on your own may seem a good idea but you may not get what you are entitled to. Solicitors fees can be claimed from insurance company.

How much is your bike worth. You may find that the guy is happy to just pay for repairs and forget the insurance as it will certainly cost him during the next few years. Knocking a cyclist off is not going to go down to well. Don't forget to add an amount for your trip to A&E. Don't get friendly with him either and keep any txt messages.

While you can remember write down everything that happened long hand. Write down exactly what he said about not seeing you as the sun was in his eyes & most importantly the fact he apologised which is an admission that he knows it's his fault. Insurance Company will love him for that one. As it's a road traffic accident and you finished up in A&E you might want to report it to the Police. It also shows that you are not a walk over and mean business. Get an incident number.

Hope all goes well .. Let us all know what happens .. Nothing worse that half a story

..

There are cycling specific lawyers you can contact once you know the extent of the injuries. Road rash and some damage to bike they're unlikely to be very interested. Broken bones or major soft tissue damage and long recovery more so potentially if they can see a decent payout for you and them

Eg http://www.bottonline.co.uk/road-traffic-accident-claims/bicycle-accident-claims

Look at this for what to do

https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/accident-advice.151618/

Need to report to police as you were injured (if they didn't attend at scene)

Take photos of roadrash and bruises once they come out and before they fade

You have 3 years to lodge an injury claim and 6 for damage to property

You may hear from his insurers assuming you exchanged details and he tells them because of the damage to his vehicle. Don't agree or accept anything. Once you do so, you can't start again if say the injuries worsen

GWS!

Make sure it has been reported to the police as well (if they weren’t called at the time).

Be prepared for the driver’s reasonableness to disappear as soon as his insurer gets involved and/or they find out how much repairs/PI etc are going to cost.
When I was knocked off the bike I reported it to the police, but they weren't interested. I put the bill for the damage through the driver's door, but a month later I had still heard nothing, so I went round to the house. It was empty, they'd done a bunk. I went back to the police, but they still weren't really interested. I managed to wring the driver's insurance details out of them eventually, but they just regarded me as a timewasting nuisance.

Probably another united fan who'd fallen asleep at the wheel while thinking about Maureen's tactics tomorrow.:tongue::tongue:

Seriously though, GWS and follow the advice in @vickster's post. It's easy enough to find a lawyer that will deal with a no-win-no-fee, but its more important to find one who has some experience of car vs bike. Also contact the police. The driver *should* have notified them, even if you haven't. It's unlikely the police will do anything in terms of punishing the driver if they didn't attend, but you'll need to give a statement for insurance purposes.
