Commuting to work, 9 miles into a 10 mile journey (all on main road and no problems with the slippy conditions) decide to take a short cut through Glasgow green park, pitch black but had my tesco torch lights which do quite a good job in the dark.

Doing about 18mph and I need to take a left turn, all's fine until I see a branch lying on the ground so need to turn in left very sharply (lots of leaves on the ground), pull on the brakes and the bike slides out to the right and I come down on my left elbow, hip and hand.

Everything happend so fast that I just didn't have time to react but one thing that I was surprised about was that I managed to disengage from my spd's before I hit the ground (don't know how I managed that!) but gives me confidence to know that I could move my leg so as not to take full impact with the ground)

I think I got back to my feet quicker than I went down, first thing I did back on my feet was to make sure there was no one around:blush: thank fully there wasn't so after a quick check of the bike I continued on to work.

Once I was in the shower I noticed that I had skinned my elbow and had a wee bruise on my hip. Thankfully I was well wrapped up so I think this helped with the impact.

In work I gave the bike a check over and noticed that my front hydraulic disc brake caliper was rubbing against the rotor so after a quick adjustment everything seems ok.

All in all, I think I got off quite lightly:smile:

Ps tried my thermal tights out for the first time today:thumbsup::laugh::thumbsup:

Ah the old I meant to do that routine, I remember it well :-)
Glad it wasn't too bad but you may well be sore in the morning.

Glad you're OK but sounds like you need better lights for pitch dark. Trouble is really decent ones seem very expensive.

BTW I've started doing that route but in reverse. Trying to work out the best way. So far I've tried Eaglesham Rd-Carmunnock Bypass-Carmunnock Rd-Aitkenhead Rd-Cathcart Rd-Laurieston Rd and down to Saltmarket then High Street and after that head north up to Bishopbriggs. I'm not a fan of Saltmarket-High Street- sounds like you might have a better way- which way do you go to get to Glasgow Green?

I am coming from Calderwood. Sounds like I am at the other side of EK to where you are starting your journey.

I head down to the whirlies roundabout then up to the retail park and join the dual carriageway heading down towards burnside, then heading through rutherglem main st this brings me down to dalmarnock road, turn left just after east end saw mills and go towards glasgow green, stay on main road past the five a sides then come up to lights, go through lights and turn in to main part of the green past the big house, head down to high court and come out at lights right at bridge, head along broomielaw and turn into brown st just before kingston bridge.

As for lights yeak I agree that I would probably be better with expensive lights but can't justify it for my wee shortcut, I think I will just stick to main roads from now on, I leave EK at 05.30 so it is very dark the now and as I say the tesco torches do a good job but obviously not good enough:laugh:

Glad you came off relatively unscathed, and you didn't have any spectators !

Those leaves and the number of sticks and branches lying around at the moment are a real hazard.
