Commuting to work, 9 miles into a 10 mile journey (all on main road and no problems with the slippy conditions) decide to take a short cut through Glasgow green park, pitch black but had my tesco torch lights which do quite a good job in the dark.
Doing about 18mph and I need to take a left turn, all's fine until I see a branch lying on the ground so need to turn in left very sharply (lots of leaves on the ground), pull on the brakes and the bike slides out to the right and I come down on my left elbow, hip and hand.
Everything happend so fast that I just didn't have time to react but one thing that I was surprised about was that I managed to disengage from my spd's before I hit the ground (don't know how I managed that!) but gives me confidence to know that I could move my leg so as not to take full impact with the ground)
I think I got back to my feet quicker than I went down, first thing I did back on my feet was to make sure there was no one around
thank fully there wasn't so after a quick check of the bike I continued on to work.
Once I was in the shower I noticed that I had skinned my elbow and had a wee bruise on my hip. Thankfully I was well wrapped up so I think this helped with the impact.
In work I gave the bike a check over and noticed that my front hydraulic disc brake caliper was rubbing against the rotor so after a quick adjustment everything seems ok.
All in all, I think I got off quite lightly
Ps tried my thermal tights out for the first time today
