It's on priority moments on O2. You get a code and phone em and book it. Very straightforward and not even an attempt at an upsell. Got a receipt which shown it should've been £29.99.

*shakes head* Why do you think your second hand bike needs attention? Is it working ok now?

The trouble is it is a bit of a lottery. If you take it into a LBS the guy clearly wants to make a living so could upsell you. On the other hand the Hellfrauds oik doesn't give a damn, he gets paid anyway. BUT! Does he know what he is doing? His possible ignorance could endanger you, ruin your bike or cost you money to correct.

My boyfriend runs his own garage and absolutely detests halfords and I think would finish with me if I so much as drove my car past. I now get it that the cycling community has an equally unfavourable view of them

My intention (naively) with the post was just to pass the news on to anyone who might be interested. I wasn't prepared for the negativity but, like I say, you live and learn.

No negativity aimed at you Schmillie, just that Halfords has a terrible reputation and in this case I really believe there is no smoke without fire. Corporate money grabbing for an inferior service springs to mind....

Workmate of mine picked up his shiny new Carrera hybrid from Halfords yesterday. Both brakes bind and the gear index is so far out it won't stay in any gear. He's taking it back this afternoon. Complete joke.

No offence, I know some of you have had positive experiences in Halfords but my interactions have been far from satisfactory.

For me 'FREE' is way too high a price too pay to use Halfords!

Bizarrely I was in Hellfrauds earlier today buying some placebo fuel additive shortly before giving my desiesel car an Italian tune-up across Derbyshire and back (being careful to give the plentiful cyclists safe, considerate passes). MOT time on Monday and now I cycle so much it doesn't get used nearly enough to keep it in tip top shape. Happily I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't need any advice. I also wasn't in much of a hurry so was reasonably happy to wait in the queue while the store assistant cocked up the previous customers transaction 3 times and had to call a supervisor to sort out the mess
