When I was younger I used to have very respectable hand writing; however like most of us I guess most of our written communication in whatever form is now done on a keyboard.
I have just completed a hand written letter to friends in Canada to enclose with their Christmas card. I decided to break out the old Parker ink cartridge pen for the occasion - and it looks like a 3 year old has written it! My hand is also aching from the unusual activity, after only 2 pages of A4.. I quite miss doing things in hand writing, and I am going to make a point of doing more of it before I lose the ability altogether .

I wouldn't have thought you were old enough to remember ink pots!

I used them for a year or two in the mid-1960s before changing to a pen which used ink cartridges. I was not allowed to use ballpoint pens for my first few years at grammar school. I once had to rewrite a multi-page history essay because the teacher refused to mark it (I had run out of cartridges and written it using a ballpoint pen).

My handwriting was never fantastic but it has definitely suffered from me spending many years using keyboards instead.

I do still scribble notes on scraps of paper though rather than typing everything on my desktop PC, laptop, tablet or phone.

My handwriting has always been awful. I think it's one of the reasons I took up IT as a career.

At school I had to write out the opening page of "The Lancashire Witches" every night for the best part of a year. I also got sent to calligraphy lessons. With the correct pens I can now do very scruffy, posh writing.

I'd almost agree .... I've lost my Lamy so I'm back with the Mont Blanc atm. Shaeffer Targa was my fave .... and I've lost two :-(

Anymore than £60 on a pen is poncey, just ask Mr Paul.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog....

Remember having to write that til my hand cramped agonisingly, and I still write like a 3 year old!
Have to admit to a stationary fetish though, cleared my van out for a service and my beloved was not impressed to find I had spent a fortune on leather notebooks and fountain pens. So much nicer than keys and screen...

At school my neat handwriting was always complemented. Now it's not so neat .
Grandad always used to buy us ink cartridge pens but we found them "a bit messy".

I never understood why we had to use ink cartridge pens at school. They were great for getting blue blotches over hands and paper but did nothing I can recall for my handwriting. But in any case I could never see why (all) my teachers moaned about my handwriting, as I could read it and knew it was OK.
