When I was last in A&E, a doctor said to me "I am just going to give you a little injection of medicine in your tummy - it won't hurt!"

I smiled and said "I would prefer a sub-cutaneous injection of low molecular weight Heparin in my abdomen!"

"You've had this done before, haven't you?"

"Yes!"

"And you don't want baby talk?"

"No!"

"Ok ..." (Smiling) "... I'm just going to give you a sub-cutaneous injection of low molecular weight Heparin into the belly fat on your abdomen!"

'Would of', 'could of' etc.
The addition of an 'r' to the end of the noun peninsula.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but "would of, could of" etc.
I'm not normally a grammar nazi, but this one really grates. There is a simple phonemic explanation for its use (the 'weak forms' of 'have' and 'of' are the same, using a schwa followed by the phoneme /v/, people make the assumption that it is 'of', and start using it as such) but to see it written down bugs me.
However, language is a 'crowd-led' phenomenon, and the more people that use it, the more accepted it becomes., It'll be the accepted 'grammar book' form in 100yrs time, or at least accepted as an alternative.

Funny, I think of 'tummy' as being a childish word for 'stomach'.

My dad was having treatment for prostate cancer before he died of something else, and he used to talk about nurses giving him injections of drugs into his stomach using a 'huge' needle. It made me feel sick to think of it, but thinking about it now, why would anybody ever inject into the actual stomach - if you wanted a drug in there, then the patient could just swallow it!
