Hello all
My first post

I have browsed this forum with interest, especially some of the commuting to work posts. It must be very challenging cycling in London and the bigger Cities. My commute is some what different, a round 11 mile ish trip, the majority of which is the cycle path around Swansea Bay and through Mumbles, encountering only four sets of traffic lights along the way. I am sat at my desk some 45 - 50 mins after leaving the house having had a hot shower at work

Some commutes I will take in an extra 3-4 miles up - down the Clyne Valley, a cycle path which once was a railway. (Thank you Mr. Beecham)

For me cycling is the only way to commute, I have be doing it for 20 years plus. I only take the car in extreme weather conditions three times in the last 2 years or so! If I drive in, or get a lift home I feel like a right fat knacker!!!

It’s also great to get out with my grandson half term and on the few weekends I have off and explore the SUSTRANS routes.

I look forward to contributing the forum

It's no big deal mate if you use your common sense.

Welcome to the forum.

Although I haven't been to Swansea for a few years now I did like the place when I was there.Had a spell in the mid 80's when I used to follow Swansea F.C.That was when I had more time and more energy.:arrow:

I too ride down through Clyne woods on the way in to work. Usually make Blackpill at about 8.20ish.

Probably see you about. I ride a silver Van Nicholas road bike with 'guards and this time of the year, flashing lights BTW..........

Croeso! Welcome aboard. I'm pretty new here myself and have found this a really welcoming, friendly and helpful site.

I had to attend a conference at the Uni in Swansea a couple of years ago. It was so unbelievably dull, I was so pleased I'd brought my bike on the train. I ditched the conference on day one and went for a fantastic ride along the bay to the Mumbles then inland along the old railway line that's now the Sustrans route that you mentioned. It was an incredibly beautiful wooded valley and although I love my native East Anglia, it was such a joy to be riding some green hills. Ended up at Gowerton via 3 Crosses I think then back down along the old railway line. Some great cycling to be had there. I never went back to the conference!

Cycling from Paddington to King's Cross to get the train home afterwards was a bit of a culture shock!

Thanks

Thanks all for your warm welcome.

515 I probably just miss you I cycle up Clyne Valley just after 8 in the morning (leaving at the Railway Pub) after finishing nights.
Yes it is a beautiful area I need to make a positive effort to get more miles in on my time off.

Cheers
;)

Hello and welcome, fellow Swansea commuters! We're bound to have seen each other at some point - I'm often on the Clyne or seafront paths. The Railway is an excellent boozer as well! Get some CycleChat kit, and make yourselves known...

Just thought I'd say hello to some fellow West Walians! Don't have much to contribute though: I moved up to Basingstoke from Carmarthenshire two years ago so it's been a while since I cycled down that way. Some lovely routes though; I may bring the bike down next time I go back to visit my parents.

Look ewe that's lovely B). Welcome aboard.

My mum came from Garden Village, and uncle used to be head of Gowerton school (Him and my aunty live in Sketty now)

I don't get down there so often now as it is a bit of a hike (and my grandmother passed away a few years ago) , but I do love the place and have family living in Llanmadoc and Llanrhidian still ;)

Hello Bay Runner, and other Swansea bike commuters. I didn't know there were so many of us

I was an infrequent Pontardawe/Swansea city commuter up until a couple of years ago, but am now a regular (used the car just 3 times this year) Rhos/Clase commuter. 16 miles a day minimum, but averaging 27 a day so far this year (it makes good Audax training). I fancy adding the promenade on but it's just a bit too far. Maybe the odd day next Summer.
