Not really aware of Derb or Staff oatcakes, must look out for them!

Shops I know of still baking them on the premises are in Leek and Hanley - I went past the one in Leek on my way back from Cat & Fiddle sportive yesterday so can give you precise directions if you're going that way. Otherwise look out for them in Tesco as they stock them though I imagine not in all stores they are in the bakery section along side crumpet type things I think. Have fond memories of collecting some one morning with my Grandad and seeing them made behind the counter in Burslem.

My parents tell me they were eaten with sweet fillings as well savoury years ago but I've only had them with bacon and maybe cheese or sausage. They are pancake sized (the large size you usually eat on Shrove Tuesday) - cook the filling, heat the oatcake in microwave for about 30 seconds then put filling towards one end and roll. My Dad's likes them with Daddies sauce too.

My dad, during the second 'Backing Britain' campaign bought a Ford Fiesta, because 'they were made in the UK' even if it is an American company. Showing me his new car, we lifted the bonnet, to see a huge sticker, proclaiming

'MADE IN SPAIN'

With globalisation I'd guess it's even harder to buy British than back then.

I really rate ShuttVR - I've got three of their ladies jerseys and have ridden all my Audaxes and most other rides this year in them in all conditions bar the worst winter cold (when I swop to a Foska jacket). They're sewn in Cleckheaton too - not too surprising as there was always a big textiles industry around that area - between the cotton on the Lancs side and wool on the east and carpets to the south. Woolen and knitted clothes for brands like Jaegar were made there until relatively recently so there was some skilled locals.

Are you a member of their clubroom Fiona? If you sign up to it (little involved, nothing onerous) you get 10% off purchases there after and special offers come through from time to time as well eg members get first dibs on things sometimes.
