This is supposed to be about heretical thoughts, not things which are so obvious they don't saying.

It's the idea of actually putting up income tax that Politicians won't go near. Also everyone but politicians can see that the service needs a step change in funding, not pushing resources around.

The Spitfire Mk 1 was slightly inferior to the Me109E (alright Bf 109E if you want to be pedantic).
Edit: the Messerschmidt's cannon through the propellor hub was useful. The Spitfire may have been slightly faster with a better turning circle, but that carburetta problem is what tips it for the 109. Also that gylcol tank possibly could have been better positioned.
