They're not. That's why they/we get especially peed off by motons sitting in the middle lane at 50 mph, oblivious.

As one who does it regularly, there can be any number of reasons:
The lorry in front is slower; obviously. Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury all have limiters set at 50mph for economy reasons. Other companies have slight variations on the setting of their limiter. As @User9609 pointed out, a heavily laden HGV will be much slower uphill than an empty one; similarly a heavy one will be faster downhill.

There will be other factors influencing the drivers decision to overtake. For instance, I will do my best to get past any lorry carrying fish, which I regularly get on runs south from Aberdeen. They have drain hoses at the rear corners of the trailer; and the stuff that comes out of there - although mainly water - is not entirely pleasant. You will soon empty your screenwash tank if you sit behind them for long! The smell isn't great either.

fair enough, I can relate to the fish carrying lorries , we have a mink and maggot farm fairly local to Halifax that gets regular deliveries of offal , you know when you are behind one of those vehicles, the stench is enough to make you wretch.

Noticed that bit too. So he was an unpaid hobby bobby a few hours per month at some time in the past, and the BBC lap it up. Then they get him to pose for a pic sitting beside a photo of him carrying his young daughter. Therefore this twerp must be some sort of model citizen; hard done to by some nasty big dirty lorry driver. Typical BBC reporting.

This driver is the motoring equivalent of trafficdroid.
Going out and deliberately looking for something to film.
Any normal driver would have pulled onto the hard shoulder and stopped, not carried on.

Yes I saw the other lorry in the nearside lane. Given that the car was clearly going slower than the lorry that subsequently side swiped him, I would suggest it fair to assume that he was also going slower than the lorry in the nearside lane. i.e. both lorries were catching the car, but one slightly quicker than the other.

Your crass attempt to excuse the atrocious driving by the lorry driver says more about you than anything.

I haven't attempted to excuse the lorry driver; if you care to read the first sentence of the OP., and in subsequent posts I agreed that he deserved to lose his licence. However I am perfectly happy that you disagree with your slanted interpretation of my posts, as per usual. I would be more worried if we ever agreed on anything. As for the suggestion that the lorry is electronically restricted to 50 mph that's complete and utter conjecture on your part. I regularly see lorries on which it is indicated speed limiters are fitted, exceeding the limits.

There is never any reason for tailgating, flashing to harass another driver or deliberately swiping them - ever.

Only if you promise that you'll never call it the "fast lane" ever again. It's not the fast lane; it's an overtaking lane, only to be used if the adjacent lane to the left is occupied. Calling it the fast lane only encourages those nobbers in Audi/Merc/Beemers to head over there even when there's nothing else on the motorway, because it's "cool", whatever that means .

I feel little sympathy for the car driver, he was driving like an idiot. Lane hogs really irritate me. As for the damage to his car I've had more damage than that when a shopping trolley has bumped into my car.

then a reckless driving ban and fine.
i then hope he gets a massive fine for wasting 999 staff time..
trucker only caused a minor mark on his car ...and as nobber stayed in a position that stopped the trucker i hope the trucker gets a no action.
