Hideous Homes for Sale (near you).

Who loves looking at the local houses for sale, especially when you're not buying???

There's some right mingers out there, and a lot of oddities too.

In this lounge, the décor is clearly 60s or 70s, with maybe an 80s aircon thing and a 90s lime green cornice.
And then there's the retrofit skylight and exposed wooden beam... very this century! WTF?

Why didn't they remove the polystyrene ceiling? what the feck... it blows my mind.

This is for sale right now, however I was thinking it must be an Ai skylight but i'm sure it isn't.

At the time of posting I've only looked at 8/25 photos of this 'delightful' home. I can't imagine it gets any better. I daren't look!

Oh... and Ai fakery is a thing these days on estate agents' websites... so post and shame them too!

A couple have lived there for decades, likely since the 70s, raised a family, grown old, and likely one or both have died - there are always properties that have a hidden human story, and I find that type very poignant.

Yeah, that's obviously been owned by an older person who has died or had to move out. My mum would have chosen carpet, curtains & suite like that.

I preferred to look at the ads for neighbours' houses which I'd only previously glimpsed through the window. A chance to see if the wall paper is really as hideous as it looks

There is a whole estate like that near me, built in the 70s when the people buying where largely middle class or up and coming youngsters who started families.

As always happens the kids have left home and the homeowners grown elderly and the estate has become much more sleepy. Few of the houses have been updated and there is still the odd one with wooden windows and secondary sliding double glazing.

Now we are in a transition phase where there are fair proportion of elderly folk rattling around their large family homes while some are dying off and other have downsized. There are now new tensions as much more active and noisy families are moving in disturbing the peace, refurbushing, extending and diversifying the area.

Another issue has been the huge influx of huge cars and in the last few years since coviditus in particular building building whacking great big extensions to the limit of the curtiage.

One fella I know in his 80s was recently telling me about a neighbour who is up in arms about the sheer number of kids riding bikes, playing football, tig, or whatever nosily in the street and the grassed area opposite. he recalls 40yrs ago she bought the house because it had the grassed area opposite so her kids could play, he recalls her kids were always the loudest and noisiest.

How times change .

Yeah, back off, I doubt you are a great arbiter of taste either Monty!

I can see the story - the wife died and the man has left the house as is as a reminder of her.
I also see a kid's bedroom (Grandkids presumably), so it's clearly been a loved family home over the years.
Don't be mean.

Actually, looking at the pictures, a lot of it isn't too bad, a bit dated and tired, but not bad or hideous or anything... Except for the carpet of course! 😆

Besides, a wooden beam like that could be quite useful for things. I'm not sure what the problem with it is?
