No it's just the fact that everything has to be so effing bland these days.

Bland decor for bland people.

@MontyVeda, my current house is a tiny little place that had had a guy (and his wife) living in it until he was 101.

Granted, a few things were either worn out or probably unsafe, but I retained things like an internal window with an old period handle and the Pulley in the kitchen. I'm glad I did keep said pulley, because it has turned out to be utterly invaluable to me in the past!

Unfortunately, when I moved in, my Mum utterly INSISTED that everything was Anaglypta white, so although nice at first, it's now decidedly 😴😴😴

I've lived in it for several years now, but I want to redecorate and bring a bit of colour and character back into what has been a fairly sterile looking place. I have been debating to myself on how to get it 'right'.

What I reckon (or hope) happens in the future is that younger people will see all these utterly bland houses and make them interesting again!! 😆

I wanted to buy this house and would have thoroughly enjoyed hammering every single one of the those feckin' dolphin tiles off the wall.
I suppose that's animal cruelty?

Our 70's bathroom had fish tiles. Just about half a dozen scattered amongst the white ones. We were kids and I remember my dad giving each fish a name.

I'm afraid I had to stop watching Homes Under The Hammer, because you would have a lovely old home that had great little period features, great fireplaces, stained glass windows, etc.

But then some w*****r would buy the place, rip it all out and make it into a bland, featureless, identikit house devoid of any sort of character or anything.

I always wondered what the hell people were thinking.

I see before and after photos where people have "upcycled" some lovely piece of old furniture by which they mean they've sanded it down and painted it some pale distressed colour. I'm one of the few people who still want "dark wood" furniture. Which means there are some bargains to be had out there.

Or some people have forgotten or never been able to be human and/or be kind to other people less fortunate than themselves....

I'd love to see a post about houses that meet the definition of hideous (my Shorter OED gives the main definition as frightful, dreadful, horrible; hence, horribly ugly or unpleasing, revolting) but not one that's poking fun at more elderly, vulnerable and/or dead people who can't defend themselves unless they are Cyclechatters.

I bought one of those 'hideous homes' back in 1992 in Middlesbrough. It was a time warp with a full-size glass partition, orange/green/purple walls and lime green tiles in an avocado bathroom.

Add polystyrene ceiling tiles and a kitchen that hadn't ever seen taste.

That meant it was significantly cheaper, which was great as we got a decent house for less money - and it was all we could afford at the time.

Having spent my life in design I'm forever amazed at what people like.
The current trend that the next generation will vomit at is everything coloured grey and white (apologies if you're bang on trend and live in a monochrome world, but don't say I didn't warn you 😆 ).

Not for sale, but this place (quite near me) is also Listed. As you can see, HIstoric England have done a splendid job of cooperating/collaborating with the owners to ensure its upkeep...

Yes, we had a shop with the green ones on the walls and it used to drive me mad when I spotted some laid in the wrong direction!
