I think you misheard them, if the cark is PARKED (ergo with engine off) and with electrical stuff running / connected it will drain the battery.

The alternator charges the battery whilst the engine is on, regardless of the position of the gear lever, although not charging as much when sat ticking over as it does on higher revs whilst driving.

Perhaps the point is that with a stop-start car, if you put it in PARK then the engine will shut down and will not restart to help with electrical load. If you keep it in DRIVE then the engine will restart to cover extra electrical demand if needed.

Someone told me that if you sit in traffic with the car in Park, and you have auxiliary stuff running (air con, heated seats, etc), then it drains the battery which is particularly bad in a hybrid car.
Not sure why hybrids should be worse? In an EV you get *some* drain, but the EV battery can power heating, lights etc for a loooooooooooooooong time.

There's been some speculation/comment in caravanning sites about that, & the possibility with current sensing/alternators that only act below a certain battery charge, that the tow-vehicle will try to draw power from the BWSOW leisure-battery
Euro 6 is quoted, I was only aware of that applying to commercial vehicles?

Yes, this makes more sense to me.

With regard to that, when I had the towbar fitted to my Kodiaq, I had 'Vehicle Specific Wiring' installed & 'coded'
It may tell the electronics that the alternator has to now supply 2 batteries???? (& the caravan fridge?)
I'm still not entirely certain of all the functions that are enabled/disabled, but this details some of the items concerned (from the company that fitted the bars/towing electrics to my Kodiaq, & my wifes Q3

I do know it tells me if a bulb is out, in a tail-light, correctly working indicators are notified by a <1> icon on the instrument panel
